Niger State is a state in the middle belt region of Nigeria.

Understand

The state capital is Minna, and Other major cities are Bida, Kontagora and Suleja. The state is named after the river Niger. It is home to Kainji Dam, Shiroro Dam and Zungeru Dam.

By plane

You can take a flight into Niger State. There is an Airport at Minna and other cities in the state.

By bus

You can get a bus into Niger State. There are several bus terminals in the state. Getting a bus into Niger is fairly easy.

Get around

You can get around the state via buses or cabs. You can also move around with boats in some riverine communities.

This state hosts a lot of dams and waterfalls along the Niger River, including the famous Gurara Falls. The waterfalls are approximately 30 m in height and lie on the Gurara river along the Suleja-Minna Road.

Two of Nigeria's major hydroelectric power stations, the Kainji Dam and Shiroro Dam, are located in Niger State, along with the Zungeru Dam. The Jebba Dam straddles the border of Niger state and Kwara state.

Do

Kainji National Park is the largest national park of Nigeria. It is home to Kainji Lake, the Borgu Game Reserve and the Zugurma Game Reserve.
