Noveleta is a town in the western coast of Cavite. It lies to the west of Kawit (and formerly part of it) and has the junction to Cavite City to the north.

Understand

[edit]

Noveleta once formed a large barrio (present-day barangay) of Kawit and parts of Cavite City, until it was separated from it in 1868.

It is a small town, with only about 16 km2 (6.2 sq mi) of land, surrounded by Cavite City and Manila Bay to the north, Kawit to the east, General Trias to the south, and Rosario to the west.

Noveleta's name by folk etymology derived from the words a Spanish soldier who shouted in Spanish ¡Madre de Diós, no Violeta! (roughly translates as "O Mother of God, my Violeta!) after a lovely woman named Violeta was forced by her father to marry him against her will and then committed suicide, but a more plausible origin of the name is a corruption of Nueva Lete (new fate). The barrio was originally named Tierra Alta, in contrast to the lower Cavite La Punta (present Cavite City).

Noveleta does have mention in the history of the Philippine Revolution: it was the seat of one of the factions of the Katipunan, Magdiwang, after the split in 1897.

Get in

[edit]

By bus

[edit]

The colorful baby buses (custom-made minibuses) commonly running from Bacoor to Cavite City or Naic ply the main coastal highway which passes through the downtown.

Saulog and Saint Anthony of Padua Transport buses plying Parañaque-Cavite City frequently stop at the downtown.

San Agustin also has premium buses from Makati.

By car

[edit]
Caution Note: A bridge carrying Magdiwang Highway (near Malen's) into the downtown is closed from 2018 until further notice.

Noveleta is about 27 km (17 mi) from Manila, and travel can take at least 30 minutes without traffic.

The main roads are Magdiwang Highway (Route 62), which becomes Marseilla Street (Route 401, pronounced MAR-SAY-leeah) west of downtown. Manila-Cavite Road carries the Route 62 designation north up to Cavite City. Antero Soriano Highway (Route 64), which is mostly a six-lane dual carriageway, bypasses the downtown to the south, connected to the downtown through General Antonio Street, served by an interchange at the boundary with General Trias.

By boat

[edit]

Launched in March 2018, the new Cavite Super Ferry Transport System cuts travel time from Noveleta to Manila to only 35 minutes from the current land travel of 1.5 to 2 hours. The ferry boat service opened Port Terminal at Long Beach, San Rafael IV in Noveleta. There will be four boats ferrying 100 passengers per seacraft from Noveleta to Plaza Mexico at the back of the Immigration Building in Intramuros, Manila. Cavite Super Ferry System had an initial four-unit introduction to the transport program with an hourly trip from 5AM to 6PM.
