Sharon Plain
The Sharon plain (Hebrew: השרון), also known as the Central Coastal region, extends along the Mediterranean Sea shoreline for 50 km, from the Carmel Range in the north to the Israeli Southern Costal region in the south, and inland for circa 16-18 km until it reaches the West Bank.
The northern part of the large Gush Dan metropolitan area is located at the Southwest part of the Sharon plain (the majority of the the Gush Dan metropolitan area is located within the southern coastal region). The population in the Gush Dan metropolitan area consists of about 1.8 million residents whom live in various cities, towns and villages.
While in the past this region wasn't highly populated, this changed during the last hundreds years, and nowadays this is mostly an irban region, consisting of cities such as Netanya and Herzliya, as well as many smaller towns, villages, moshavim and kibbutzim, in additional to numerous agricultural fields. In the recent decades the urbanization of the Sharon plain region has intensified as the Gush Dan metropolitan continues to grow northward into the Sharon plain.
The Sharon plain also consists of many natural beaches with sand dunes, limestone cliffs, and several streams. The region also has various archeological sites, including Caesarea.

By train
The Haifa - Tel Aviv railway line crosses the Sharon plain region from north to south. The railway station "Caesarea - Pardes Hana" is located only a few kilometers from the archaeological excavations of Caesarea.
By bus
There are many bus lines coming from or going through major cities in the Sharon plain region (especially going through Hadera, Netanya and Herzliya) from many places outside the Sharon plain region. There are also express buss lines to various major cities in the Sharon plain region whom head out from Tel Aviv, Haifa, Jerusalem, and Tiberias.
By car
The Highways Route 4 and Route 2 cross the Sharon plain region from north to south. In addition, the Trans-Israel Highway (Route 6) crosses the Sharon plain region from north to south at the eastern end of the Sharon plain region, and there has seven major interchanges through the Sharon plain region - the Eiron interchange, the Beka interchange, the Nitzanei Oz interchange, the Eyal interchange, the Horashim interchange, and the Kesem interchange.
