Location on the map[edit]

The dynamic map shows the park in the middle of the sea. Is this due to coordinate system mismatch or are the coordinates simply wrong (or does the park extend towards Greenland)? The coordinates here match those in the WP article (67.883333,-61.016667 and 67°53′N 65°01′W), but the WP locator map seems to put it in a location better matching the description. --LPfi (talk) 08:17, 1 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No, 61°W does *not* match 65°W. I've changed this to 65° but the map still looks like a whole lot of nothing but ice. K7L (talk) 16:23, 2 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Oops, I missed that (just starred at the decimals, which needed translation). The coordinates are on land now, probably inside the park, but our maps usually have very little content in rural areas. A zoom=5 helps to at least show the region where it is. park borders, trailheads etc. would of course be nice to have. --LPfi (talk) 21:43, 2 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

What passes does one need?[edit]

In the Fees and permits section the articles lists "Northern Park Backcountry Excursion/Camping Permit", the "Discovery Pass" and the "Cultural Access Pass". Are these three alternatives all of which give the same access, or should one choose depending on what one is going to do in the park, or perhaps buy two of them?

The linked Discovery Pass page links to "what is not included", which explicitly excludes "Northern Park Backcountry Camping and Excursion Permit". Seems I need the first permit regardless of the two others. Are they valid here at all? Do I need them or a day pass (not mentioned) in addition to the backcountry permit? I cannot find Nunavut in the list of the "over 80 Parks Canada places" where the Discovery Pass is valid.

You're right: the Discovery Pass is not valid here? I'll remove it. The Cultural Access Pass is only available for people who've received their citizenship in the last year, as the article says, so you probably don't qualify. Ground Zero (talk) 14:01, 22 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps one should mention that it is not valid here. Those with the cultural one probably still need the backcountry permit, so it seems also to be no use (even for those who qualify). --LPfi (talk) 14:11, 22 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. Add that if you think it's useful. Ground Zero (talk) 14:23, 22 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I was going to add that, but I am not sure about the fee policy. The page for the park says admission is free for youth, but other fees (supposedly the backcountry permit) apply. The fees list page gives a 404 error. So is there an admission fee in addition to the fee for the backcountry permit (for non-youth)? --LPfi (talk) 15:38, 22 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I agree it's not clear from the website. The northern parks are not day-use sort of parks because of how remote they are. I would think that the Northern Park Backcountry Excursion/Camping Permit covers it since the only way you're going in is if you're planning to do an excursion and camp. Ground Zero (talk) 16:58, 22 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I suppose so, but I do not want to write that without really knowing. --LPfi (talk) 18:36, 22 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The Discovery Pass doesn't include camping; it just waives the daily park entrance fee. From https://www.commandesparcs-parksorders.ca/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/en/parksb2c/discovery-pass

It includes "Unlimited admission for 12 full months from date of purchase at over 80 Parks Canada places that typically charge a daily entrance fee"
"What is not included? Regular fees still apply for other experiences and services, such as:
  • Camping and other accommodations;
  • Canadian Rockies Hot Springs;
  • Northern Park Backcountry Camping and Excursion Permit;
  • Reservation Fees;
  • Guided tours, hikes and programs not usually included with admission;
  • Some special event fees;
  • Firewood;
  • Backcountry overnight use. Note: This is not an exhaustive list." K7L (talk) 19:46, 22 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. And I think this park is not one of the 80. But is there an entrance fee in addition to the backcountry fee? We think there is not, but can we be sure? The fee list for this park (which one is told to check) is behind a dead link. --LPfi (talk) 20:49, 22 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I found the list of fees here. You pay either the day excursion fee or the nightly camping fee. I have added this to the article. Ground Zero (talk) 13:16, 24 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
