Talk:Bodrum

My favourite season in Bodrum is from November through April, with generally very good weather with a few heavy shower periods followed by spring times (3), the first one in November, the next one some time after new year, and the last one in March/April. My favourite spring time of the 3 is definitely the one around new year, with the almond blossoming and the abundance of wild ruccola, and the not to cold nights, which you will have in February. - Hi Arnold. I have copied most of the above to the climate section of the article.--(WT-en) Vidimian 17:39, 29 November 2009 (EST)
- Modified Sleep. Added Bodrum Backpackers, changed advertising for one hotel into a standard hotel listing. Removed listing for villa somewhere as webpage no longer exists and there was no other identifying info --(WT-en) LimeBanana 11:53, 26 April 2010 (EDT)
- Modified See. Added the Mausoleum - Did not write too much about the mausoleum as it is covered in the history section (was i right to do that??) —The preceding comment was added by (WT-en) LimeBanana (talk • contribs)
- Yes, you were. As you possibly already noticed, "understand" section only deals with the history of the place, and it is a very helpful contribution you made to "see" section about details of visiting the place nowadays—many thanks for all your contributions. But unfortunately I had to remove the external link you added there, because as a policy we only link to primary sources, i.e. no links to other guides. You can read more on the policy on this page. – (WT-en) Vidimian 13:34, 29 April 2010 (EDT)
- I should also add that, normally (say, had Mausoleum not been such an important place) the history and other important aspects of a sight (i.e. the reasons why travellers want to go there) go into the description of that "see" listing, so this is only an exception (though all that Mausoleum section can also be merged with the "see" listing). And if you have more details about that (for example, what to expect to see there. A lonely, atmospheric place? Stunning views of town/sunsets? Well-preserved ruins?—I guess this is not the case, just to give an idea), you can add those to the listing as well. – (WT-en) Vidimian 16:58, 29 April 2010 (EDT)
This is in the Asian part of Turkey, not the European. It is therefore wrong to put this under Europe.
Bodrum peninsula
[edit]“Bodrum” is used by tour operators to describe a slew of nearby resorts. Many are small and unlikely to merit their own page, but collectively they add up to a prime tourist destination. We therefore need to decide how to organise their content. My suggestion is:
- Bitez to merge into Bodrum city, which could also cover Torba
- Turgutreis to cover the peninsula west coast including Gumusluk
- Yalikavak to cover its north coast including Gundogan and Golturkbuku.

- I have never been to this area, so I don't really know these towns. But in the past I had a passing thought about how all of the peninsular towns minus Bodrum could be merged into a Bodrum Peninsula article. Your suggestion sounds as good as any. If any two towns to be merged into an article are on an equal footing in respect to the travel scene, that article could be named after both of them: e.g., Turgutreis-Gümüşlük or Yalıkavak-Göltürkbükü. - I'd like to avoid hyphenated or "frankenpagenames" that are unwieldy and don't relate to any real place or local description. Turgutreis and Yalıkavak could be substantial pages once populated with, for example, all the hotels featured in western brochures - good evidence of their standard and viability. So I'll work on those lines and if that ploy fails, "Bodrum Peninsula" can be the fallback. Milas is a candidate for page creation, with a population of 55,000 and many nearby antiquities, but I'll probably defer it to the next work cycle. Grahamsands (talk) 10:32, 10 March 2023 (UTC)
- Sounds good. Vidimian (talk) 10:58, 10 March 2023 (UTC)
