Hi, I visited the Cape Reinga in jan 2019 - great place - ( Lucky with weather :-) )

Question :

its a sacred place to Maori culture, and signs ask us not to drink and eat at the sacred area. we parked at the 2nd Parking area away from the lighthouse, and wondered if it would be offensive to the Maori culture, to drink or eat at that parking area. - any body who have an answer to this... ??

Thank you , this country is so fantastic :-) —The preceding comment was added by Jorgenpeter denmark (talkcontribs)

It is recommended that you eat at the picnic area at Tapotupotu Bay, 5 km before you reach Cape Reinga, but not on the cape, which is a sacred area. Ground Zero (talk) 08:51, 12 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
The present-day carparks are newer ones that have been built outside the sacred area, so it is fine (I understand) to eat at the carparks now. However, one might find Tapotupotu Bay nicer than the asphalt parking lot at the Cape. Nurg (talk) 02:19, 4 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
