Page building

[edit]

This county's pages have been built up with Carrick covering the south, new page Drumshanbo in the middle and Manorhamilton the scattered north. The latter includes the top end of Lough Gill, which is shared with County Sligo - the one with the Lake Isle of Innisfree. Dromahair is a tiny place there which I propose redirecting into Manorhamilton. In practice you're most likely to visit from Sligo city.

See also Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands / Talk - that term is just a marketing brand and by-and-by the page should re-direct. Grahamsands (talk) 22:40, 20 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

If "in practice, you're more likely to visit from Sligo city", why redirect to somewhere else? The article's three listings could either go into 'Further afield' / 'Go next' on Sligo, or else be moved into this county article.
No problem with redirecting IHH skeleton.
As you're improving these articles, remember to upgrade their status as and when. If an article has a 'Get in' section, and at least one listing each under 'See' or 'Do', plus both 'Eat' and 'Sleep', it's Usable, no matter what state it may otherwise be in.--ThunderingTyphoons! The POIs around the top end of Lough Gill are indeed listed in Sligo / Further out, with brief xrefs in Manorhamilton. But I was thinking that if someone was specifically looking for Dromahair, then they're less likely to be day-tripping from the city, and maybe should land in County Leitrim?
The upgraded pages are all in transit to "Useable", have faith, I just leave them for a few weeks then take a last fresh look before upstaging and quitting the area. The minimum spec for useable is kinda miserable and the standard I'm going for is PDG - Pretty Damn Good. Grahamsands (talk) 15:24, 21 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Oh, I agree that 'Usable' is a very broad church, much more so than any other status, but that is by design. When you think about it, the bare minimum travellers need is a reason to visit, a way of doing so and reassurance they won't starve or have to sleep in the cold. Hence use-able, rather than a practically useless Stub or Outline. But obviously getting from that bare minimum of usability up to 'Guide', which should be of a standard someone might actually pay for if we weren't foolishly giving away our work for free, is much harder to do, so there are 'Usable' articles that are PDG but still not quite 'Guides'.
"But I was thinking that if someone was specifically looking for Dromahair, then they're less likely to be day-tripping from the city, and maybe should land in County Leitrim?" Yeah that's logical, as long as you avoid a situation whereby they land in Co Leitrim and there's nothing about the place they searched for. The fewer the clicks / taps people have to make to find what they need, the more likely they are to stay on WV.--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 17:39, 21 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
