Warning banner, "unsafe city"[edit]

There is a banner on this page that says "this is one of the most dangerous cities", but the "Stay Safe" section says "Safe for tourists." I don't understand how the two sentences can be on the same page. Can someone perhaps we can expand the "Stay Safe" section, explain what makes the city dangerous, but at the same time safe for tourists? I don't know enough to comment. I was going to add the same question. I doubt Dahuk is "one of the most dangerous cities on Earth", considering that Aleppo, Raqqa, Mosul, Aden, Mogadishu and Tripoli are also on Earth. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:59, 13 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi Dears I am a Kurdish citizen of Erbil near to Dahuk living there but originally from Kirkuk, travelled several times to Dahuk and still travelling from Time to Time there as it is a nice place in Iraqi Kurdistan and have several interest places to visit ... by NO way you can say that it is dangers or even will be in the future I do not think so not for an Iraq or a foreigner so how it can be considered one of the most dangers places of Iraq as it is mentioned in the banner ???!!! if it was up to me i deleted the bannar ... I'm OK with deleting the extreme language that doesn't seem to be fact-based. Of course, if foreign governments have any advisories specifically mentioning Dahuk, we should include them. Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:48, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I did not go there on my recent trip to Iraqi Kurdistan, but I did do some work connected to it and was not told of any particular problems there. Proximity to Mosul does not seem like a good reason for the banner to me. Erbil is just as close. I would favour deleting it and updating the stay safe section. I will go ahead and delete the warning banner. Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:00, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Well Done Dears and I am very Positive and can assure you that No City in Iraqi Kurdistan are dangerous except the one that is near to Musol ofcourse so if possible can you remove it from other cities of Kurdistan or if it is allowed to me I can remove it one by one... What are you proposing to remove from where? Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:38, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I am saying that other cities of Kurdistan are safe and better than the rest of Iraq as I am living there and it is totally up to you...cities like (Rawanduz,Raniya,Iraqi Kurdistan) and also others like (Choman , Halabja , Koye , Shaqlawa , Sinjar , Chemi Rezan , Dukan Lake , ..., others...some of these cities do not have pages but I will create for them soon...Sarbast.T.Hameed (talk) 12:11, 24 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Fine with me. Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:23, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Population[edit]

The guide says the population is 250,000, while Wikipedia says 1,250,000. Is the city defined in different ways or is the figure here simply wrong? --LPfi (talk) 08:25, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

sv-wp says 340,000 for the district (of which the city is part) and one million for the province, in 2009. The city has been growing rapidly, but that rapidly? The 2014 figure on en-wp seems to cite "World Gazetteer: Iraqi City Population 2014", de-wp says half a million for the "Großstadt" (citing Directorate of Health in Duhok, which does not seem to have specific statistics). Seems it is Wikipedia that has it wrong. --LPfi (talk) 08:40, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
