Hey there (WT-en) Creative, I'm not sure what your question was about, if you're referring to the Salsal Guesthouse, yes their singles are $10, although they may be trying to get wise to the new influx of foreigners and ask for $15, but that's definitely overpriced and people should haggle it down to $10 (which IMO is still a bit much - Afghanis are paying around $5 for the same rooms) (WT-en) Cacahuate 05:39, 6 December 2006 (EST)

Visitor's permit??

In theory there is now a counter at the airport dealing with the registration of foreigners. You need to have two passport size photo’s with you. They will issue and stamp the registration card on the spot. If you don't find the counter, or no one is present, you will need to go to the Ministry of Interior, Foreigner Registration Department to do that (within one or two days of arrival in Kabul).(WT-en) Ozone108 01:38, 14 August 2008 (EDT)

Banks

(WT-en) Cacahuate, I don't see a good reason for your removal of Kabul Bank and Azizi Bank from the Money section? These are the leading banks in Afghanistan, having many branches in Kabul. Visitors to Kabul should know all this, and they do have ATMs as well as Western Union services. Standard Chartered only has one branch in Kabul but that was not removed. Do these banks accept foreign cards with the visa or mastercard logo, or must you have an account at these banks to withdraw cash at the atm's? Kabul Bank clearly says under "Bank Services" ATM and Master Card. That means someone can withdrawl their money from their home country in Kabul. You can also do a special bank window transaction to withdrawl cash from your Debit, Visa, Mastercard, etc. The banks provide all other kinds of services for foreign travellers, like money transfers, drafts, Western Union, etc.

Azizi Bank, which is owned by Azizi Hotak provides SWIFT and Western Union services. It will have ATM and Credit Card services in the future. These services come in handy for travellers who are out of cash or those who lose their wallets, etc. Besides, these are the very popular banks in Kabul with so many branches everywhere. The Standard Chartered only has one location in the city and it is very difficult to find.--(WT-en) Creative 18:52, 12 October 2008 (EDT)

Actually nothing I read on the Kabul Bank site leads me to believe that you can withdraw cash at this moment with a foreign card, but the other services are handy, so cool. Standard Chartered is one of the most commonly used banks by foreigners, and is one of the few that accepts foreign cards at its atm, which is why I left it in in the first place. Azizi is relevant only because of the Swift and Western Union, it's otherwise useless to a traveler, so for that reason alone I'll agree it should stay. Airport

I travelled through yesterday (26th Jan 09). The new terminal does appear complete and looks very nice. It even has air bridges. However, flights are still being handled by the old terminal. I am told the new terminal was officially opened late last year. No one knew why the new terminal was not being used. Anyone familiar with Afghanistan will have seen this sort of thing happen in other areas.(WT-en) Davidbstanley 05:21, 27 January 2009 (EST)

I have traveled into and out of the new airport terminal since my arrival on August 1, 2009. There is a requirement for foreigner registration after customs and before final check at baggage xray. Per discussion at Dotm, this city desperately needs a good map :) I might be able to help when I get back home next month, time permitting.... but if Peter or someone has the inclination to do it, please go ahead.... Something like this and the one already in the article would probably be good for the larger overview map, and then will likely need insets or separate zoomed in maps of Shar-e-Naw and maybe Wazir Akbar Khan areas – (WT-en) cacahuate ^talk 14:13, 21 December 2009 (EST)

"Fairly safe"?

Is "fairly safe" really a suitable description of the security situation in Kabul? There have been several massive attacks in the last few months and they were all aimed squarely at foreigners. [2] [3] (WT-en) Jpatokal 08:24, 24 May 2010 (EDT)

The problem is that the security situation changes every few months. A year ago, relative to the rest of Afghanistan, Kabul was indeed "fairly safe". Today, the city isn't amongst the country's most dangerous regions/cities, but there have been a few attacks against foreigners. You can remove that phrase if you wish. Turquoise Mountain & Murad Khane

Murad Khane, the artistic quarter of Kabul, is not only getting some of its parts restored by Turquoise Mountain [4], but it also has made education on the arts of calligraphy & painting, woodwork, jewellery & gem-cutting, and ceramics. Additions of obsolete info

Swept in from the pub

Editors from two IPs "updated" Kabul with info from WT, info that had been there already in 2013. I don't know whether some independent people noticed we lacked some information and copied without noticing the state of WT, or if this was part of an effort from IB. If the latter, similar edits can have been made in other articles. Also in the former case, we should be alert about info copied from the net without checking whether it is recent and correct. –LPfi (talk) 10:03, 3 February 2022 (UTC)
