Citation for population
[edit]I just wanted to add a quick citation for the population data I found. It is from https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Kaiserslautern&oldid=1241269624. RockTransport (talk) 19:07, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- We don't need or use such citations, but stating the year is often appropriate – and for that you may need to check the source used by Wikipedia rather than the Wikipedia article (here 2022/2023, not 2024, when the article was last modified).
- In this case the year isn't essential, as the population probably is reasonably stable and "approximately 100,000" will stay correct even with a 25% increase or decrease.
- Often giving the source in the edit summary is good, especially when there may be confusion about the entity for which the population is given (cf London vs City of London, or when there are many non-citizens who might not get counted) – and especially when one doesn't know about that potential confusion oneself.

- I interpreted the post as giving a citation here on the talk page, which is perfectly fine to do. I normally cite sources in edit summaries, though. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:02, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
