Banner

I think the new banner is problematic because it's blurry on the right side. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:20, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

It's not ideal, but I'm not convinced that it's a significant problem. There are not many photos to work with for Labrador, and this is a decent photo (blurriness aside) of a fairly important historic site that represents the culture and history well. If we can someday get a better photo, that's fantastic, but at this point I think it's better than a default banner. -Shaundd (talk) 00:42, 19 May 2013 (UTC)

I find it a significant problem. I kept peering at the right side to make sure it was really a problem with the photo. Can the photo of Nachvak Fjord be turned into a banner? Ikan Kekek (talk) 00:45, 19 May 2013 (UTC)

I actually like the blurring right side. While unintentional, I find it forces you to view the whole image instead of just making an assumption about what it is. I doubt that the banner is improved if the right side is perfectly in focus. —The preceding comment was added by 99.232.72.23 (talk • contribs)

I looked through Commons again and still don't see any suitable alternatives to this banner, so I looked at Flickr. Any thoughts on these banners and if one is suitable to replace the current banner? -Shaundd (talk) 05:47, 16 December 2016 (UTC)

Thanks a lot, Shaun. Just based on my reaction to the banners as pictures, I like the 3rd alternative (Battle Harbour view) best. I'm kind of unsure which of the others comes in 2nd for me, but I like all of them better than the current banner. Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:21, 16 December 2016 (UTC)

And I guess you'd prefer that the previous banner wasn't repurposed for use on Port Hope Simpson? I still think it's better than the default but admit the blurriness irritates me the more I look at it. -Shaundd (talk) 06:21, 18 December 2016 (UTC)

Understand

From the 2012 version of this page, as imported from WT:

Labrador is 'The Big Land', the mainland portion of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador which covers the Atlantic watershed of the Labrador Peninsula from the tip at Cape Chidley to the southern border with Quebec at the 52nd parallel, extending east to the Strait of Belle Isle.

The scenery along the Trans Labrador Highway is beautiful yet harsh enough to remind the traveller that those who live here are toughened by the elements that shape their existence every day. The coastline is beautiful with distant mountains and a pseudo tundra as the backdrop.

Despite its rich history and resources, the region and the people of Labrador have not been historically wealthy. The region is isolated, with resource development and roads such as the Trans-Labrador Highway being recent projects. In many ways, the relationship between Labrador and its historical 'parent,' Newfoundland, has been a microcosm of the relationship between the province of Newfoundland & Labrador and the government of Canada--Labrador often feels ignored and exploited by the island government in Newfoundland. Nonetheless, like Newfoundland, Labrador is culturally rich and is an interesting destination for tourists that is off-the-beaten path.

I've rewritten "Understand" and a few other pieces to *not* use the WT copypasta, so as to avoid the duplicate content penalty. Most of the information is still there, but reworded or rewritten. I'm not sure if we need the bit about economic hardship and resource exploitation (and we likely already describe terrain adequately and overdo the "410km to next filling station" schtick), so moved this here for now. To usable?

Most of the individual destinations are usable, except:

• Labrador City-Wabush needs 'connect' 'get around', 'see', 'eat/drink'
• Port Hope Simpson needs 'see' and 'drink'

The main article for Labrador would be usable if these were fixed; Labrador City in particular is an issue as "market one", the largest metropolitan area in Labrador. It needs to be usable before the main Labrador article can be promoted. K7L (talk) 05:16, 9 September 2015 (UTC)

It's not essential for Usable status, but it sure would be nice to add some more photos to this article. There are no featured pictures in Commons Category:Labrador; of the 2 Quality images, one is actually of Iqaluit, and I inserted it in the guide for that town, and the other is a snowy aerial picture of Belle Isle. The only Valued image is of a mineral called Labradorite from Brazil. And I can see that many of the photos are of Labrador retrievers, not the region. So whomever would like to take on the task of selecting a few more good images to use in this article might want to look through the subcategories. Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:47, 9 September 2015 (UTC)

To guide (and OtBP?)

All the individual destinations are now Usable; I upgraded Port Hope Simpson from Outline a few minutes ago after finding it filled the requirements. What, if anything, is currently keeping us from upgrading Labrador to Guide status? -- AndreCarrotflower (talk) 16:51, 17 September 2016 (UTC)

There are IMO really no issues with the article. I'll plunge forward and upgrade the article. I guess you've intended this as a plan B for Gaspé Peninsula? ϒpsilon (talk) 18:21, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
