New official name
[edit]Mangalore has been officially renamed to Mangaluru by the Karnataka state. The name Mangalore was named by the Britishers due to difficulty in pronouncing. Now it has been reverted back to its original name. So the name Mangalore has to be changed to Mangaluru wherever possible. —The preceding comment was added by Karalgikarrahul (talk • contribs)
- Tricky one... Wikivoyage selects the name that is most commonly used by travelers, and even Wikipedia still uses its old name w:Mangalore. I myself have some experience since I work with an office in this city and it is still referred to as Mangalore --Andrewssi2 (talk) 08:48, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
- Also is this any different to Bangalore , still identified by most by its older name? --Andrewssi2 (talk) 08:51, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
- Karalgikarrahul, thanks for starting this thread. As I just posted on your user talk page, changing the name of the title of a Wikivoyage article is a momentous decision that cannot be done unilaterally if there's any chance it could be controversial; you must await the outcome of this discussion before taking any action.
