Language for names[edit]

South Tyrol is predominantly German, in language, and culture. This is why, when I created the pages for Seiser Alm, and Kastleruth, I had the page oriented around the German names, with Italian and Ladin names presented as alternatives. Most of the South Tyrol pages do follow this convention, but not this one. We really ought to change this page (and many names within it) to match the same convention. Thoughts? Makes sense to me. There are these complications from the South Tyrol page:
Italian-speaking South Tyroleans live mostly in Bolzano - about 55% of the whole Italian-speaking population, and they are a majority in 4 other municipalities: its metropolitan area - the three metropolitan municipalities of Laives, Bronzolo and Vadena, and in the village of Salorno which borders Italian-speaking Trentino to the south.
Ladin-speaking people are a majority in 8 municipalities
But if we're going to be consistent about the whole region, German is clearly the #1 language. Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:18, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
My perception when I visited was that the most useful language in Ortisei/St. Ulrich was German. —Granger (talk · contribs) 00:20, 20 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It's not so easy to tell what the differences are when they're not in the same page. A thing I notice in your draft that bothers me is all that white space near the top, and the pagebanner looks taller than the standard, but I don't know if those are relevant questions in this context. But in terms of naming, I think you have a clear though small consensus in this thread. If you're concerned someone might disapprove later, consider starting a thread in Wikivoyage talk:Naming conventions called "South Tyrol", linking this thread and waiting a day or two. Then, if as I would imagine there will be no objections, just go ahead and make the changes we've agreed on here - and thank you for taking the initiative on this! The page banner looks different because it is implemented differently. When I constructed the sandbox page by copying all the edit text of the original, the "" tags at the top didn't render the same way in the sandbox as it did in the original (image and links were missing). I added in this image manually to create a similar effect. When I copy back this proposed edit, I will retain the original page's banner tags. --Marvin The Paranoid (talk) 16:51, 26 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
