I argue that this article be renamed to "Punjab". Pakistan's Punjab is 205,344 km2 in area and have a population of 101,000,000 whereas India's Punjab is only 50,362 km2 in area and 27,704,236 population. --Saqib (talk) 18:10, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose. Both Punjabs are well-known. I don't think we want people looking for the Golden Temple to be directed to Pakistani Punjab. Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:17, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
- Every big place is obviously well-known and Indian Punjab is big but not as big as Pakistani Punjab. The first five major cities in the Punjab region belongs to Pakistani Punjab named (Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Multan and Gujranwala) and Pakistani Punjab houses more attractions then Indian Punjab. --Saqib (talk) 18:53, 27 December 2013 (UTC)
- The Golden Temple is a big deal. It's the world headquarters of Sikhism, giving the Indian Punjab an outsized importance that can be loosely (albeit very loosely) analogized to the Hejaz (only very loosely analogized because of the tremendously higher number of Muslims worldwide vs. Sikhs). Also, not that we should normally be motivated by petty nationalist squabbling, but I see no reason to gratuitously insult Indian nationalists or Sikhs by redirecting "Punjab" to Pakistani Punjab, as I see no great benefit to travellers from it. Would you also like to redirect Kashmir to Indian Jammu and Kashmir, since its population and the population of its largest city, Srinagar, dwarf those of Azad Kashmir and any of its cities, respectively? I sure don't. And I think the reactions are predictable, in either case. It's difficult enough that we have to recognize all de facto borders, for the benefit of travellers. - I don't think this is even one to discuss. It's not about which place has "more" people, cities or attractions. Both policy and common practice are quite clear: we only do not use a disambiguation when one place is so much more famous than others with the same name that the disambiguation is a hindrance rather than a help. This is the case for unknown villages vs huge cities (like Amsterdam or Paris), it does not apply to two places/regions which both have millions of inhabitants and plenty of attractions, even when one has many more millions. - How much greater is the population of Jammu and Kashmir than Azad Kashmir? As per the Wikipedia articles, Jammu and Kashmir had 12,548,926 inhabitants as of 2011, whereas Azad Kashmir had a population of 4,567,982 in a 2008 estimate. Do you want Kashmir to point to Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir? I didn't think so. This is a dead issue and should stay buried. Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:47, 21 January 2015 (UTC)
- Ikan Kekek, I'm no more in favour of this request that I made when I was a a newbie to Wikivoyage so was not well aware of the guidelines. We can archieve thise dead discussion. But for the record, Kashmir case is totally different case. We cannot rename Jammu and Kashmir to Kashmir even thoughts its big in size because its official as well common name is Jammu and Kashmir. Azad Kashmir official name is Azad Jammue and Kashmir and commonly known as Azad Kashmir. Other than that, there's already one article for Kashmir so Jammu and Kashmir cannot be given the "Kashmir" title. --Saqib (talk) 11:13, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
