redlinks[edit]

The problem is not redlinks per se, although they are aesthetically unpleasing. The problem are redlinks that have been sitting around since before the move and link to towns so small even people living twenty kilometers from them have never heard of their name, nor are they considering ever going there. What is gained and who is served by redlinks on towns whose creation would result in articles that are either the barest of bare outlines or entirely useless stubs? I may be convinced that an article on some of those hamlets might be needed, but we don't have to cover every place where more than three houses stand next to each other in Germany... If that is our aim, we can ask for the services of that one bot that datadumped the 2000 census onto Wikipedia without sense reason or moderation, resulting in gems like a 450 people hamlet having had 0.4% Asian as of the 2000 census. Does stuff like that serve the traveler? Hobbitschuster (talk) 14:36, 12 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Feel free to remove any red links for tiny unremarkable place you don't think will end up deserving an article. Texugo (talk) 14:39, 12 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
This was in part a response to an edit of mine being reverted where I commented out the redlinks linking to places I'd never heard of. Now I am not the tourism office of Hesse, but I generally am aware of most places that deserve a visit / have name recognition beyond and besides the major towns and none of those redlinks rang a bell for me. But I will not revert the reversion, as I do not wish to partake in an edit war. Hobbitschuster (talk) 14:42, 12 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Well, any time you're removing information, it's probably best to explain in the edit comment or talk page why you're removing it, in this case being because those sites will/should never have articles. Otherwise it looks like you just have a thing against red links in general. And if it is the case that you are removing redlinks because they will/should never have articles, it's better to just remove them. Otherwise you're just hiding them and, again, it just looks like you're doing it because you have a thing against seeing red links in general. Texugo (talk) 15:16, 12 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
