Wineries

I went ahead and put the wineries from the Santa Barbara article here. They should be in the individual pages, but I'm not sure whether to put them in both. A winery tourist would probably go to the individual pages rather than just print this page? Anyhow, after inserting them into the city articles, or verifying them, they might be removed from here.--(WT-en) justfred 17:43, 13 October 2006 (EDT)

Map and districting

I've started a map for a proposed regional hierarchy of Santa Barbara County on the main page. It currently fits nicely right at the edge of 7+2. I would propose that we merge Isla Vista and Montecito in to Santa Barbara, Orcutt merge into Santa Maria, and Los Olivos merge with Santa Ynez, barring a compelling argument to the contrary. Alternately, I think it would be reasonable to treat Santa Barbara, Isla Vista, Montecito, Goleta, Carpenteria, and Summerland as districts of a large(-ish) city, as a plan 'B'. -- MisterCustomer (talk) 23:43, 7 December 2013 (UTC)

A lot of times, once you get down to the county level no further subdivision is used - per Wikivoyage:Geographical hierarchy#Dividing geographical units: "The 7 ± 2 rule... doesn't need to be applied stringently to the lowest level of the hierarchy; if a region has more than nine cities in it, and there's no helpful way to divide it into subregions then don't split it." The static map is beautiful but needs to be updated, with Los Olivos and Montecito added. It would be nice to make this article into a Guide, and that's a necessary step, IMO. Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:45, 4 June 2018 (UTC)

Rural lodging

There are a few resorts in rural Santa Barbara county. Most that are listed are included in a nearby city article, even if they are well outside that city. The Region article template suggests a few ways to handle such listings. I chose to add a "Sleep" section to this County article, and put the resort I wanted to add in there. One could argue that it would fit in the Goleta article. One could argue that other rural resorts should come out of their city articles and go in this article's Sleep section. One could argue that it's worth creating articles for Rural Santa Barbara County — and maybe Santa Ynez Wine Country, to take the wine tour listings. JimDeLaHunt (talk) 21:17, 23 March 2016 (UTC)
