Talk:Shangrila

My understanding is that Shangrila is the new name for the whole prefecture. I suspect the city should still be called Zhongdian. There's also a Tibetan name for it which I've forgotten. (WT-en) Pashley 23:20, 10 March 2007 (EST)

Should we move this to Zhongdian, and make Shangrila a disambiguation page with links here and to Hunza Valley and Ladakh, both of which some writers claim (e.g. at Karakoram highway) were the original inspiration for the Shangrila novel. "Zhongdian" is certainly still used, e.g. the bus station signs show routes to Zhongdian, not Shangrila. But the tour companies say Shangrila. (WT-en) Pashley 22:45, 19 January 2008 (EST)

Fire

A major fire wiped out most of the Old Town On January 10-11, 2014. Since this area has most of the tourist facilities, visitors are likely to find everything disrupted for some time to come.

I just removed an info box that I think is outdated. Preserving the content here.

If I'm wrong, put it back or (better, I think) add up-to-date info elsewhere in the article. Pashley (talk) 17:02, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
