Talk:Sneek
Snits
[edit]Sneek is a tri-language town. Some 40% of the inhabitants speak primarily Nederlands (Dutch), an other 30% speak Frysk ((West) Frisian), and the remaining 15% speak a Stadsfrys (Town-Frisian) dialect. Thus, there is no language spoken by "The locals", in the sense that they all use the same name for the "town". The majority, being all non-Frisians, say "Sneek". (Of course, the locals don't call it a "town". That would suggest a "Market Town" - vlek - whereas Sneek was one the 11 independent entities, known for lack of a better name in English as "cities".) ~~~ Mysha (talk) 08:49, 5 February 2024 (UTC)
Never the Twain
[edit]To me, it seems like this says Germany is west of Sneek. Since this would be too unlikely to be true, I have to assume the intention was to express something else. I don't know what, though. ~~~ Mysha (talk) 08:56, 5 February 2024 (UTC)
TWA is not Twa
[edit]TWA Tsjillen Rijwielen doesn't exist any more. If never existed to begin with, as it's not TWA (time-weighted average), but rather "Twa" (Frisian: Two, as in "Twa Tsjillen" - "Two wheels"). Regardless, this winter, the shop closed. I'll ask the VVV what cyclestore they now send tourists to. Speaking of which, the post office point in the Albert Heijn close to the station also no longer exists. I hope I recall to ask the VVV about that as well. - If it is closed, why don't you remove it? Ground Zero (talk) 15:26, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
- Because I hoped tourist information had designated a different bike shop as THE shop, and removing it would remove that concept altogether. For the post office, there's the agent next to the Albert Heijn, but it doesn't have the longer opening hours that the supermarket has. Drop, or keep? Mysha (talk)
- It does not help travellers to leave in obsolete information. If a business is closed, we remove it. I don't understand your question about the post office agency. If it is a service readers might use, why not include it?Ground Zero (talk) 09:06, 12 February 2024 (UTC)
- No, it does not help travellers to show obsolete information. But the dead of winter is hardly the time where leaving in obsolete information in for a few days will be a problem. If there is no information on bike shops, there is no telling (for me) how long it will take before a new prominent shop will be included. Thus, leaving in the bike shop for a few more days, to see if there was an alternative, seemed the more prudent solution.
- What about that postal agency? There are at least eight postal agencies in Sneek. When one of the nine was open longer and on more days, selecting the best was a no-brainer. Now that the remaining agencies are all shops with normal shop opening hours, do we want to list them all, and keep them up-to-date, or do we rely on the Snekers directing anyone to the nearest agency? Mysha (talk)
- No, there's no reason to list 8 postal agencies that are all more or less the same. But there's no reason to leave obsolete info up one second longer than you can delete it. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:40, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- Deleting obsolete information does not make it more difficult to add new information later. Ground Zero (talk) 10:09, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
