Other destinations[edit]

When re-doing the map for this region I noticed that we only have 7 OD's listed. After the re-organisation, I suggest we need one from each of Zambia and Mozambique.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 04:02, 16 March 2010 (EDT)

I suggest either Kafue National Park or South Luangwa National Park in Zambia, and Ilha de Mozambique.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 04:44, 16 March 2010 (EDT)
South Luangwa is fine. But the Victoria Falls can also be seen from Zambia. However, as I've states at the Talk:Africa page, I think Malawi should also be in this grouping. --(WT-en) globe-trotter 05:26, 16 March 2010 (EDT)
Yes, me too. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 05:42, 16 March 2010 (EDT)
Added South Luangwa National Park and Ilha de Mozambique.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 02:00, 22 March 2010 (EDT)

Nine cities[edit]

With the addition of Malawi to Southern Africa, Lilongwe was added to the list of Cities, but that gives us 10. We need to reduce it to nine. Which city should go? Powers (talk) 21:25, 1 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Considering that every nation's capital must be included, Maun looks like the one to remove. Does anyone disagree? Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:29, 2 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Why must every nation's capital be included? Lesotho's and South Africa's capitals are not. (Not that I have a problem with removing Maun, as it's not even on the map.) Powers (talk) 22:21, 4 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I thought the policy was to include all capitals. No? You're right that Pretoria isn't included, though Cape Town is described as South Africa's legislative capital, but Maseru is included. Anyway, I'll remove Maun, but I'd like clarification on policy about capital cities in super-national region "Cities" listings. Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:30, 4 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I meant Swaziland's capital.
As for capital cities, we simply can't include them all and stay within our nine-city guideline. You can see this at Central America (no Belmopan), South America (no Brasilia) and Southeast Asia (no Hanoi), for example. There was also extensive discussion on Talk:Central Europe over whether Ljubljana merited inclusion over Munich or Krakow, just for the sake of making sure Slovenia had a city on the list. Powers (talk) 17:48, 5 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I do recall the discussion about Ljubljana, now that you mention it.
So is the policy that when there aren't more than 9 capitals in a non-bottom-level region, all are listed in "Cities", or is it a looser policy than that? Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:14, 5 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
No, I'm not aware of any such policy. Note Central America, which only has seven countries, but Belize's capital isn't listed. If we have fewer than 9 countries in a continental section I think we would try to get one city in every country listed, but it doesn't have to be the capital. In practice, of course, the capitals will usually be among the most important cities in any given region or continental section. But there's no rule about it. AFAIK, the only rule regarding capitals is that the capital is listed first in the article corresponding with the administrative division or country of which it is the capital. Thanks. I can understand why Belmopan wouldn't be listed in the Central America guide. Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:26, 6 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
