St. Louis Safety
Ok, here is the straight on crime in St. Louis: There is a CITY of St. Louis (pop. 325,000)and the GREATER METRO AREA of St. Louis (pop. 2.5 mil plus), commonly called BiState St. Louis. The Bistate includes the City of St. Louis, St. Louis County (which because of some political flap in the 1840s is in no way associated with the city) St. Charles, Jefferson, Lincoln and Washington counties in Missouri and several counties in Illinois. The boundaries of the city have not grown one inch since that date in the 19th century, i.e. no suburbs have been annexed as has been the case in almost all US Cities. The City of St. Louis is NOT in St. Louis County, or any other county. It is an independent city. It is important to mention this because there are only a few independent cities in the USA and this fact means that the statistics can be rather unique.
The "most dangerous city" rating applies to the CITY of St. Louis. BUT according to the same statistics that gave the city that dishonor showed that the Bistate area (even with the city factored in) ranked something like 260th in over crime.
And, yes, we prefer ST. not Saint and it is LOUIS not LOUIE.

I wanted to include this somewhere, but I didn't see any other articles that had external links, so I wanted to put it on the discussion page first. St. Louis has its own wiki, with 1000+ articles about the city and county. I think it's a notable resource for more in-depth info on the area. The site is WikiLou.com. Should a link be included in an "external links" or a "for more info" section? Neighborhoods
St. Louis generally has some pretty well defined neighborhoods and many locals see the City in these neighborhoods. Does anyone care if I add a section and general information on each? For example, a neighborhood like The Hill has a uniqueness that defines its appeal and is not replicated in every American city. That should be highlighted as a worthwhile experience while visiting the region.
