Inaccurate information[edit]

One of our editors translated this article into Russian. I read the translation, then read the original and was literally shocked by the number of obvious mistakes in the information about hotels added on April 29, May 4, and May 19 (all edits by User:Globetrotter19):

  • Hotel Praga, DBL.50€ (added on May 19). Current price is 450 UAH according to the hotel's website, which is slightly under 30€ at the current exchange rate that did not change much since May 19.
  • Hotel Inturist-Zakarpattya: "Rooms are vary. sgl. shared bath €16, dbl €23-39-55 depend of ammenities." All rooms of this hotel are en-suite as the hotel's website and even booking.com tell us clearly.
  • Hotel Old Continent: "Four star. sgl shared bath €59, room with shower €77-87". Can you imagine a room with shared bath in a 4-star hotel? Can you imagine the price of €59 for a room with shared WC in a small Ukranian city?
  • Random check of other hotels showed that most of the prices and some of the phone numbers are wrong.

It is not the first time that long and messy lists of hotels, sights, and restaurants are added to articles about Ukranian destinations. In fact, nearly all of them are littered in this way, and this littering continues on a daily basis, also spreading to other countries. There is no policy against the activity of this sort, but I believe it is highly detrimental for the project in general. --Alexander (talk) 21:14, 21 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You are wrong. §1 Hotel Praga main season from UAH580. §2 Inturist-Zakarpattya HAD shared bath room Lp. Ukraine ISBN1-86450-360-X. (Ed.2005) §3 Let's Go Eastern Europe ISBN 0 333 65281 (Ed.1996), Chapter Ukranine/Russia: almost all (older) hotels in Post Soviet region have many types rooms from shared rooms to luxury suites.

P.S. Things maybe changed. (But not radically.) I searched on Net and I found standard and economy rooms mostly means rooms are with shared bath, maybe with shower.

P.P.S. §4 You said datas from net or any source are not trustfull. I do not understand after that why are you surprised on wrong phone numbers. Do not accuse me! NOT, I found these numbers! These are not MY imaginary numbers. - - Globetrotter19 (talk) 11:44, 22 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Globetrotter19, are you using price information from a 9 years and another 18 years old guidebook? ϒpsilon (talk) 11:50, 22 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No! Prices from Net (mostly), but Alexander mentioned he do not believ shared bath in four star hotel - - Globetrotter19 (talk) 11:54, 22 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You added this information less than a month ago, so things could not have changed substantially. I don't think they changed at all. Here is a list of direct links (all in English) showing that you are wrong:
  • Hotel Praha, the price of a standard room is UAH450, which is less than 50 Euro by any exchange rate, even 3-4 years ago when UAH was much stronger than it is now
  • Inturist-Zakarpattya, the first line says explicitly that economy rooms are with shower and toilet
  • Old Continent, click on any of the room descriptions to see that they all feature a bathroom
I can't believe that these mistakes are accidental. They reflect a completely wrong attitude that you have to change, or refrain from contributing to this project. --Alexander (talk) 12:04, 22 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Gt19, it's a very good practice to google sights, restaurants, hotels etc. that you plan to add and it does not take very much time. This is something I often do even if I've been there myself and always if I'm translating content from another language version. Many of them have their own web page, and that is the best place to look for up to date information. Otherwise they are often mentioned at forums and other travel sites (but in this case information that is more than on year old is mostly worthless) or at least in some online yellow pages service. Of course, if you can find absolutely nothing about the place on the Internet, it most likely doesn't exist any more.
I don't want to sound harsh but please keep in mind that our guides are here to help people to travel and therefore should be as accurate and practical to use as possible. ϒpsilon (talk) 12:41, 22 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
