Template talk:See

This is what User:Member mentioned when creating the page: intended to replace the <see> tag, which violates the Manual of Style (http://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Wikivoyage:External_links#External_link_format) Member (talk) 23:02, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I believe our tags are going to be updated along with the next MediaWiki update, so we're kind of stuck in limbo until then. --Peter Talk 00:13, 16 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Even so...wouldn't a tag like <see> be better served by a template? --Member (talk) 02:21, 16 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
There is a template... {{listing}}. This one appears to be a pointless duplicate? K7L (talk) 04:11, 11 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Is it possible to specify subcolours in this template to distinguish different types of places on the map? Soshial (talk) 22:46, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

{{listing}} takes a parameter "|type=..." which can be one of:
  • see (steelblue)
  • do (gray)
  • buy (teal)
  • eat (chocolate)
  • drink (black)
  • sleep (navy)
  • listing (forestgreen)
  • other (forestgreen)
  • city (blue)
  • go (brown)
  • vicinity (maroon)
  • view (royalblue)
  • gold (gold)
  • lime (lime)
  • magenta (magenta)
  • mediumaquamarine (mediumaquamarine)
  • orange (orange)
  • plum (plum)
  • purple (purple)
  • red (red)
  • silver (silver)
  • (default colour is fuchsia)

That won't work with {{see}} as it's hardcoded to pass "|type=see" to the {{listing}} template, generating a steelblue marker. I haven't tried all of these other colours, but supposedly they're listed in {{listing}} or its subtemplates, so (if it worked, and it looks broken) {{listing|type=orange|name=Yukon Orange Growers Association|lat=90|long=-90}} should generate an orange marker as 1 Yukon Orange Growers Association. at the North Pole. Frozen orange juice, anyone? K7L (talk) 01:59, 30 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Plum and magenta don't work BTW. Soshial (talk) 10:10, 7 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a LOT, K7L for posting this! There used to be a cheat sheet at the map server (I think), showing all these but it was taken down some months back. ϒpsilon (talk) 13:30, 7 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia and Wikidata fields[edit]

I'm not seeing them when I click on the "See" icon to the right of "Listings", nor am I seeing them in the template, even though the history shows that they were added. What do you think accounts for this? Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:32, 1 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
