Template talk:Smallcity skeleton

I rolled back the addition of "City name is in Region Name". I'd rather not have text in templates that has to be deleted or replaced by default; mostly because I find it a pain in the keester when I'm editing. --(WT-en) Evan 08:56, 8 June 2006 (EDT)

I'd rather have it there, because I find it a pain in the keester to figure out where on the planet a city is every time someone neglects to include this basic info in a new article. - (WT-en) Todd VerBeek 09:45, 8 June 2006 (EDT)
How about putting it as a comment? — (WT-en) Ravikiran 10:04, 8 June 2006 (EDT)
I understand the sentiment, but I don't think the prompt is sufficiently explicit to get people to add the information if they weren't going to in the first place. --(WT-en) Evan 10:08, 8 June 2006 (EDT)
I agree with Todd on this one. Lately we have had some people that did not edit and just left the default text, but for the most part people will fill it in or change it if it is there. And a hi-light and overtime is pretty easy for me, much better then having to research where the city is located. -- (WT-en) Tom Holland (xltel) 10:32, 8 June 2006 (EDT)
I usually use the "what links here" to find out where a place is if it's not in there. I'm finding the "is in" sentence a pain when there is already some sort of (hopefully more interesting) intro text already in place... (WT-en) Majnoona 14:46, 8 June 2006 (EDT)
"What links here" is remarkably unhelpful when cleaning out the orphaned pages list. :) People learn how to write and format articles by example, and these templates are a great opportunity to actually show them how to do it right, before they get in the habit of doing it wrong. That boilerplate sentence is even a one-line tutorial on wikimarkup, with an example of '''bold''' and [[link]] syntax. I think that's worth the inconvenience of having to type Shift-DownArrow Delete if you don't happen to need it. - (WT-en) Todd VerBeek 15:14, 8 June 2006 (EDT)
I can live with having this text auto-inserted into the page. I don't think it's going to do what you want it to do, though. --(WT-en) Evan 16:12, 8 June 2006 (EDT)

My recent changes[edit]

I've changed the template so now it substitutes the name of the article. (WT-en) –sumone10154 19:15, 19 April 2011 (EDT)

Wikipedia link[edit]

I've removed the commented Wikipedia link generator. It was commented because we have different naming conventions than WP. Since it was commented, it didn't serve any purpose—I'm able to add wp links faster without it. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 13:38, 12 July 2011 (EDT)

Protection[edit]

I've just protected this page because any disruption to this template may cause significant damage to the entire project. I can't really find good reason for anons to edit this as well, and users automatically become autoconfirmed after 4 days if we need someone else from another wiki to solve an issue if it arises.
