This is simply to keep track of my work on Polk County (Florida). I would like for this region to eventually reach guide status and be a featured Off the Beaten Track destination.

Completed tasks[edit]

  • All necessary city pages have been created.
  • Appropriate redirects have been created (see list below).
  • Coordinates, Wikipedia, Commons, & Open Directory links have been added to each page. (Some pages don't have a corresponding Commons page.)
  • Add climate template to each page
  • Add all libraries
  • Add all post offices

Tasks[edit]

  • Maps, maps, maps!!!
  • Pics!
  • Add Chambers of Commerce to each page (Done: Dundee, FM, LA)
  • Add all hospitals & urgent-care clinics (Done: Dundee, PC, LA [none], LW)
  • Make sure repeated content is similar on each page and no important details have been missed: climate, Get in/around info (like bus info, train/airport info/codes), non-emergency police dept. phone numbers, & certain stay safe info (like alligators).
  • Double-check formatting against MoS (esp. phone numbers). Make sure coordinates are in same position in all listings.
  • Maybe separate Kissimmee State Park (from Lake Wales).
  • Create and figure out what to do with Poinciana and Four Corners (Florida).

Pages[edit]

  • Polk County (Florida) — Outline status. I haven't really done much to this yet. Other destinations needs cleaned up. Understand needs content. Get in is great (was written/updated Dec 12 or Jan 13)! Get around, See, Do, Buy, Eat, Drink, Sleep, Stay safe, Stay healthy, Cope, & Contact need content. Go next needs to be re-written. Need pics.

Guide status[edit]

  • Lake Alfred — See, Do, Buy, Eat, & Sleep are filled with all listings from guide (Feb 2013), just need prices & websites. Cope & stay safe/healthy info could be added
  • Lake Wales — On its way to Star status! Intro/Understand are great (history could be expanded). Get in/around are great (any more relevant info?). See has great listings...any way to divide into sections & add prose? Do section is awesome (just check formatting & format #Events)! Buy is empty (add listings and info about historic downtown commercial district)!!! Eat listings could be divided into sections (add prices). Add prices to sleep section & listing from "River Ranch" in guide. Go next could be longer. Need more pics. Go through tourism info on CoC website & city website (and add both links in a "Visitor information" subsection).
  • Polk City — Should add history from town website: [1]. Maybe move Waldo flying service to "Do" and separate "Do" into categories ("Aviation" & "Outdoors"). Maybe add Safari Wilderness Ranch, Green Swamp East, & Hampton Tract. Any other Buy or Eat listings? Drink section empty. No Commons exists.
  • Winter Haven — Understand is complete w/history & climate (move visitor info into a subsection). Get in is OK (need to add "By bus", cleanup "By car", & put airport/train station into listing template). Get around is OK (add info about bus terminal). Any more "See" listings? Legoland needs cleanup/expansion. "Do" needs to be divided into subsection with prose. Format Do#Events to look better. Buy is complete (content was added in Feb 2013). Add to Eat listings (format listings & add prices). Drink section is empty. Sleep section was completely updated & formatted in Feb 2013. Contact is complete w/library & post office listings. Cope needs more listings. Go next is nice, but was written in 2008/9 and should be updated/re-written. Needs good pics.

Usable[edit]

  • Bartow (Florida) — Understand: History could be expanded, climate needed. Get in/around need work. See, Do, Buy, Eat, & Sleep complete with all listings from guide (Feb 2013), needs prices/websites & could also list all building on Nat. Reg. of Hist. Places. Drink, Contact, & Go next are empty. Needs more good pics.
  • Dundee (Florida) — Needs intro and Understand#History. See, do, buy, eat, & sleep listings present, just need to add to descriptions, add coordinates, and add prices. Add prose to stay safe, stay healthy, contact, cope, and get out. Need info about Lake Hatchineha area (boat ramps?). No pics. No Commons exists.
  • Fort Meade — History section is OK. Needs prose in intro, climate, do (discuss Peace River), & go next. Check listings for websites & add descriptions to see/do listings. Get in/around complete, except for Get in#By bus. Just one pic.
  • Frostproof — Understand, Get in, Get around, & See are complete. Do needs a couple more parks added and more description. Eat & sleep listings are complete (Feb 2013), but need prices. Buy, Drink, & Get out are empty. No pics.
  • Lakeland — Understand section is OK (good history/climate sections; need visitor info & climate chart). Get in needs info in #By car & #By bus (public transportation) sections. Get around needs content! See & Do are fairly empty...need content!! Buy, Eat, Drink, & Sleep sections need clean-up and new listings. Cope & Contact sections missing. Go next is empty. Needs pics. Probably worth dividing into Lakeland/Central, Lakeland/South, & Lakeland/North.
  • Mulberry (Florida) — Get in#By bus needs content. Look at guide to see if there are more see, do, eat or sleep listings (content was added in 2012). Contact needs expansion. Understand, Get around, Buy, Drink, & Go next empty. No pics. No Commons page exists.

Outline[edit]

  • Auburndale — Only hotel is listed (there are 3 RV resorts that need to be added. Everything else is empty. No pics.
  • Davenport (Florida) — There's some content present, but it all needs cleaned up. Check websites of listings for more info (like email, prices). No pics.
  • Haines City — Empty except for one sleep listing. No pics.
