User talk:(WT-en) DanielC
Add topicHello DanielC!
Welcome to Wikivoyage. Please take a sec to look at our copyleft and policies and guidelines, but feel free to plunge forward and edit some pages. Scanning the Manual of style, especially the article templates, can give you a good idea of how we like articles formatted. If you need help, check out Project:Help, and if you need some info not on there, post a message in the travellers' pub.
Thank you for your contributions to Bilbao, Santander, Cambridge, Sarajevo, Granada, Cordoba, Algeciras, Gibraltar and Isle of Skye. Great effort! A couple of minor points though; You can hide the (disambiguator) by adding a pipe character (|)to the end of the name e.g. [[Place (disambiguator)|]] displays as Place. And if an article about a place does not exist yet there is no need to include the (disambiguator), just put square brackets around the place name. Also Wikivoyage generally writes articles about complete destinations rather than just individual attractions. You may find our Article naming conventions and What is an article pages helpful. -- (WT-en) Huttite 00:52, 15 Jan 2005 (EST)
thank you
[edit]Wow, thank you for making my text look so much nicer in Recoleta and Boca.
Images & Copyright
[edit]Hi Daniel! I noticed you've uploaded a ton of great photos and I just wanted to make sure you'd read the fine print about the copyleft used for all material on Wikivoyage. I'm no expert, but you can post any questions you might have at the travellers' pub. Keep up the great work! (WT-en) Majnoona 13:45, 24 Apr 2005 (EDT)
Warm welcome....
[edit]Thanks for the warm welcome to Wikivoyage. I have to admit I stumbled across this site, and just sort of 'plunged in' as the stub invites you to do. It was only once this had been done that I sorted out a user account. :-)
I will try to add some more info about the towns and villages around Eastleigh as and when I can get some time to do so.
Catch you later, David
Thanks for all the help with Skye! I vacationed there via bicycle a few years back, and it struck me as a fantastic place for travel, but I have few photos as it rained the entire time we were there. The Moil photo is a good addition. It's also appreciated that you added material for some of the villages, etc.
Any suggestions on a map? The article could use one if it's ever to make "Guide" status, and my adventures trying to produce one for Santa Fe (New Mexico) convinced me that map-making should be left to more skilled Inkscape users than I am ... -- (WT-en) Bill-on-the-Hill 17:20, 9 April 2006 (EDT)
- Cheers. I spent about 3 days on Skye and Harris last summer - it was a relaxing, beautiful place. I agree that Wikivoyage could in general do with more maps, but I also lack the skills to produce them and am awaiting a general Internet PD advance in producing them. I understand that there is also the option of looking for ones over 100? years old, which should be possible in London. As for "guide" status, the article does not seem that far off it anyway, although I am unsure how to gauge when a region article is ready for that. -- (WT-en) DanielC 17:30, 9 April 2006 (EDT)
Airports
[edit]No problem with the proposed removal of Brussels National Airport - I just created it because there was a red link towards it in some other article. I integrated it all in Belgium - Get there - By plane. Nevertheless, wouldn't it be interesting at a later stage in wikivoyage's development to create some format for airport related articles, but in that case for all or most airports? Best regards (WT-en) MaartenVidal 18:54, 1 May 2006 (EDT)

Great job!
[edit]Thanks for taking care of the vandalism problem this morning (my time). You really made some headway! --(WT-en) Evan 09:52, 14 August 2006 (EDT)
Umeå
[edit]Please see Project:Article naming conventions: "Latin characters are the letters A through Z, capitalized or not, with or without accents or diacritics". So Umeå, with the funny little ball, is correct. (WT-en) Jpatokal 08:29, 21 August 2006 (EDT)
Hi Jpatokal. I just looked at that page, because it was one of the pages that linked to Umeå. Hasn't the policy changed recently? I am sure it used to be that we should use non-accented latin characters. I preferred the old policy, but seeing as it has changed, I was obviously in error. -- (WT-en) DanielC 08:32, 21 August 2006 (EDT)
- It was changed, yes, but over a year ago... (WT-en) Jpatokal 08:44, 21 August 2006 (EDT)
Admin nomination
[edit]I've nominated User:(WT-en) Cacahuate to become an admin; please comment on Project:administrator nominations when you have some time. --(WT-en) Evan 01:26, 6 January 2007 (EST)
Hmmmm. I wrote that comment a while back, and to be perfectly fair I can't remember what I was referring to.... However, I've given it a quick check now, and I'd say there are still a few things that need to be improved:
- There are a few links that need to be unpacked
- some of the listings have got contact details in random orders (try adding them all to templates to get them in a uniform style across the guide) there are also email addresses which aren't linked etc (again the listings template jobbys will sort that out)
- I also think that where the guide talks about the various galleries and museums the info shouldnt be paragraphed - that way it's all aligned properly on the left hand side.

DotM
[edit]- Hi Daniel, thanks for all your input on the DotM page. It is very helpful...just one thought, however: We now have two US national parks following in successive months - ie Yosemite and Zion. I was just wondering that for the sake of diversity whether it would be better to separate them by adding a non-US destination in between. What do you think? Also, appreciate your work on the Cambridge article. It is encouraging me to linger there a little longer on future visits to the UK. (WT-en) WindHorse 09:24, 7 February 2007 (EST)

Hi Daniel, I upgraded Gori from usable to guide mostly in hopes of getting some feedback—I'm trying to figure out what the article would need to become guide quality. Would you please let me know what you think it is currently lacking. Thanks! --(WT-en) Peterfitzgerald Talk 16:20, 27 April 2007 (EDT)
Hi Daniel. I've been trying to do a bit of work on Edinburgh and especially the Districts. I've tried to rejuvenate a discussion in which you made some very good points (admittedly about 3 years ago!) on the Discussion page. I'd appreciate your input again if you have the time... Davos
[edit]Hi Daniel. I've been working on Davos, and was wondering why you deleted the majority of my revised intro. Can you let me know? Thanks. --(WT-en) MarinaK 15:59, 11 September 2008 (EDT)MarinaK.
