Hello Kbala1055! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Project:Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. --(WT-en) Wandering 11:09, 25 October 2008 (EDT)

Sure. Go ahead and create an article on this district. I notice that Tamilnadu doesn't have any regions listed, so you may want to think about how to divide it into a few regions (not necessarily by district but rather by cohesive areas) and then create articles for each region. I don't spend much time on this site but pop in a question if you need help and I'll generally respond in a couple of days. Thanks. --(WT-en) Wandering 11:11, 25 October 2008 (EDT)

Style tag

[edit]

Well, for starters, the Dindigul article is divided into a lot of sections which don't exist in our article template. You can consult the style manual to see how to make a proper listing for each attraction, rather than giving each one its own section header. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! We do appreciate your contributions. (WT-en) Texugo 06:30, 26 October 2008 (EDT)

Dindigul Style changes

[edit]

Hi kbala, I reorganized the page a bit to match wikivoyage style for regions. Hotels etc are not usually included in a district page, so I deleted that. (I also copied your user page content over to the talk page where it should belong!) --(WT-en) Wandering 17:55, 26 October 2008 (EDT)

You should list the cities on the Dindigul page and make separate articles (pages) for each city (unless the city is really not worth a page, but, even a couple of hotels or a sight or two would warrant a separate page for the cities. I don't know anything about Dindigul, so whatever you think is correct is fine (you get to decide everything!). --(WT-en) Wandering 21:46, 3 November 2008 (EST)

Maps

[edit]

Hi there. You won't be able to use Google maps for the article because of copyright issues. Please have a look at How to draw a map for info. You may be able to use http://www.openstreetmap.org for source material. Let me know if you have any further questions. (WT-en) Texugo 08:24, 16 November 2008 (EST)

It is technically possible to upload a .jpg sketch as you asked, but it is far preferable to create a map according to the article above because a) it results in professional-looking standardized maps with a wikivoyage look, and b) others can update and contribute to the map easily. Dindigul map

[edit]

Image tags are case-sensitive. Correcting it to the exact image name fixed it. Do you think you could crop the bottom of the map a little better? Lots of blank space there. (WT-en) Texugo 00:01, 22 February 2009 (EST)

Dindigul restaurant listings

[edit]

The listings were removed partly because they were not very informative, but mostly because most wikivoyage readers DON'T LIKE TO BE SHOUTED AT!!!!1!!ONEHUNDREDANDELEVEN11!, which is what you do when you write in all caps.

So,

  • Format the listings correctly using the "* <eat name="" alt="" address="" directions="" phone="" email="" fax="" url="" hours="" price=""></eat>" templates found below the save button.
  • Preferably include some information on the listings, like what sort of cuisine the restaurant offers, the setting, favourites etc.. How would you choose a restaurant from a long list of names in say Århus? not very helpful eh? but if you wanted Chinese and knew restaurant X served Chinese food, it

would make it easier to choose, no? Hope that makes it clearer, remember you can always click the history tab to see comments other editors have left when they did their edits. --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) talk 04:15, 4 June 2010 (EDT)

Stefan beat me to it, but here is my answer to your questions on my talk page.
Sure, you can but please note the following:
  • Please do not write in capital letters. This is seen as SHOUTING.
  • Please try to give more information than just a name and address if you can.
  • A good restaurant listing would look something like this example:
  • <eat name="Sardine" alt="" address="Jl Petitenget 21" directions="northern end of Jl Petitenget, almost opposite Metis" phone="+62 361 738202" url="http://www.sardinebali.com" hours="closed Mondays" price="Mains Rp 100,000 to 150,000" lat="" long="" email="" fax="">A recent and successful addition to Seminyak's chic dining scene. Specialise in fish and other seafood prepared with a Mediterranean ethic. Intimate restaurant with an innovative all bamboo design and clear views over the rice paddies.</eat>
Also, and very importantly, should these not be at Dindigul_(city), rather than Dindigul? The Dindigul article is a region article, and at Wikivoyage, individual listings should not go into a region article, but rather into the component city/town.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 04:12, 4 June 2010 (EDT)

Dindigul District

[edit]

I still think we should merge the city and region articles, so please leave the tag until consensus has been reached on talk:Southwestern Tamil Nadu, --(WT-en) ClausHansen 10:51, 15 June 2010 (EDT)
