Hello Rspga! Welcome to Wikivoyage. Thanks for plunging forward so far. If you're going to continue working on Wikivoyage, you may find the tips for new contributors helpful.

I've noticed that you added Atlanta to the main page, but I don't think it's quite ready. For instance the Sleep section is empty. We try to make sure that new pages getting links from the front page are as complete as possible. Also they go on at the top of the section, and bump the oldest so that there are only five per continent. You can read more in the Project:Main Page guidelines.

Meanwhile the Main Page is watched pretty closely, so even though I'm leaving your change, somebody will probably remove it pretty soon. If you would like to have Atlanta listed there the thing to do would be to make sure that it's complete, and then maybe mention it on Talk:Main Page... (we try to add somebody elses work to the Main Page usually, not our own.

Anyhow, I hope this doesn't scare you off, because we're really glad you want to contribute!

You should also make sure you understand our copyleft and policies and guidelines. Scanning the Manual of style, especially the article templates, can give you a good idea of how we like articles formatted.

If you need help, check out Project:Help, and if you need some info not on there, post a message in the travellers' pub or on the talk page for the most appropriate article.

WikiTravel vs WikiPedia

Please read (and try to understand) the (rather different) Disambiguation page naming conventions. WikiTravel has a different naming convention from WikiPedia because we have a separate page for each place. We use the simplest name possible for the disambiguation page and the use (disambiguators) for all the disambiguated pages. This ensures that when someone links to the simplest name they get the disamiguation page. It saves having a lot of redirects too.... I agree. We've arrived at the disambiuation standard here after rather a lot of difficult back and forth. We like it. Please check it out. Bethlehem - Israel or Palestine?

I guess this had to happen sometime re Israel / Palestine, so here goes...... Just wondering what your rationale for moving Bethlehem to Bethlehem (Israel) was precisely.....? The Israelis don't claim Bethlehem as a city, it's within Area A of the Palestinian Authority and will definitely be one of the major urban centres of any projected Palestinian state. I think these points make a fairly good case for simply moving it to a page of its own, i.e. Bethlehem, one that doesn't have any political overtones (neither Israel nor Palestine have to be mentioned and the article can be linked to from either country article)..... Yeah, you know, contrary to what I said above, we have this in the Project:Article naming conventions

"As an exception, if one place is so famous that the disambiguation is a hindrance rather than a help, it remains without a disambiguating parenthesized suffix. Examples: Paris is the capital of France, Paris (Texas) is a nice little prairie town in the US. Los Angeles refers to the large metropolitan area in southern California, and Los Angeles (Chile) refers to the mid-sized town south of Santiago. Peru is the country in South America; Peru (Indiana) is a town in the American Midwest."

We could add Bethlehem and London here as examples you know, they are just about this famous. There's a reason for this rule: We want the guide to be useful for travellers, including when they use the search box, so if somebody types "London" in the box the idea is to send them to the one they probably want London (which gets millions of visitors per day, I don't think any of the other Londons can quite keep up with that). So just to let you know why somebody is likely to move London and Bethlehem back to where they were. -- (WT-en) Mark 01:18, 18 Oct 2004 (EDT)

Mark's quite right. Both London and Bethlehem are sufficiently famous to warrant their "own name" headings, standing by themselves - we can disambiguate the other namesakes in other ways..... Besides, placing Bethlehem in Israel (moving it out of a Palestinian context) is just plain wrong - it's a fully Arab town, part of Area A of the Authority, projected as an integral part of any future state. Historically, it was supposed to be an internationalised city alongside Jerusalem after 1948, but we all know what happened to that idea.....! What is up with Surrey (disambiguation)? There is no need for this page yet, surely. Disambiguation pages should not be like [[Place(disambiguator)]] but like [[Place]] because that is what everybody is going to write and wikifi first. You can always write a link [[Place(disambiguator)|Place]] and your problem is solved. Move Surrey to Surrey (England) only when another Surrey is created. Washington's Birthplace

Hi - is Washington's Birthplace really a town, region, or park area? According to Project:What is an article I think the information should probably be included in either the nearest town's article, or in the article for the parent region. In addition, please see the Project:Region article template and the Project:Small city article template for stub templates that should be used when creating new city and region articles.
