Hello, Altfish! Welcome to Wikivoyage.
To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here. Thanks very much for joining up, I'm NJF from SSC. Your edits to Altrincham look great - thanks very much for plunging forward! Hopefully, together, we can make a real improvement to all the articles in Greater Manchester. :) --Nick talk 14:28, 2 October 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the great job you're doing on Altrincham! Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:05, 2 October 2013 (UTC)
Manchester Districts
[edit]Hi Altfish!
I'd be interested to know what you think of my proposal from last month to redefine some of the Manchester article's districts. I've implemented most of my ideas, but if you have any thoughts or new ideas, I'd be very glad to hear them! You can see my post here. --Nick talk 18:54, 6 October 2013 (UTC)
A barncompass for you!

Thanks for all your great work improving articles in Greater Manchester and Cheshire! This Barncompass is to recognise the fantastic job you've done - it's really appreciated! Please keep up the great work! :) Nick talk 18:34, 15 October 2013 (UTC) |
Many thanks, enjoying it. Altfish (talk) 19:30, 15 October 2013 (UTC)
- Well deserved. --Saqib (talk) 19:35, 15 October 2013 (UTC)
Just wanted to say thanks for all the fantastic work you've done with Annan - you've done a great job! :) --Nick talk 18:13, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
Altfish (talk)Glad it's appreciated, I get up there quite a bit and I keep adding to it as I discover new places...needs more pubs and places to eat!
Hi Altfish!
Hope all's well! I was just wondering whether you'd be prepared to take a look at the Metrolink section on the Manchester page. I'm still trying to improve that article (I'm hoping to eventually get the blessing of Marketing Manchester), but I don't really know all that much about the Metrolink system as it doesn't really go near where I live. I've updated what I can, but it looks like the 'By tram' section was originally written several years ago and I'm sure that it still contains info that's out-of-date. Would you mind just taking a look and seeing what needs to be changed? The Metrolink's changed a lot in recent years and it'd be good to reflect that on here. We could also use some of the info on the Greater Manchester page, which is looking rather thin!
Thanks,
Nick talk 14:36, 18 March 2014 (UTC)
Altfish (talk) 21:49, 18 March 2014 (UTC)Yes, will do, not sure when but I'll certainly give it a once over.
- That's great! Thanks! :) --Nick talk 22:36, 18 March 2014 (UTC)
- Altfish (talk) 09:58, 19 March 2014 (UTC)Started looking at this, there are currently quite alot of temporary service changes in force whilst Victoria is being refurbished; additionally the likes of Rochdale town centre is due to open in the near future. I will redo the page reflecting current service patterns but I will need to monitor and update as things progress. Is there somewhere I can publish a draft for your comments when I have finished updating it?
- You could create a section in your user space for the draft - something like User:Altfish/Metrolink for example? That way you can just copy the content across when it's ready. Thanks very much for looking at this! --Nick talk 14:51, 19 March 2014 (UTC)
- Nick, draft available here...https://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/User:Altfish#Metrolink; I've not included photos and it needs more formatting and links adding. The out of city destinations could possibly do with expanding. I do wonder if Metrolink could do with its own page?? Altfish (talk) 18:08, 19 March 2014 (UTC)

- Thanks very much for doing that - it looks fantastic! Once we've added some photos, it'll be perfect! It would be interesting to have a whole page for Metrolink certainly and we could probably fill it, though I think it would require a change to current policy. That's certainly do-able, though the London Underground page was merged back into the London article; you can see the accompanying discussion here. If we could attract attention to that topic, a Manchester Metrolink or Transport in Manchester page could perhaps act as a prototype? Either way, brilliant work! :) --Nick talk 22:56, 19 March 2014 (UTC)
- Altfish (talk) 10:16, 21 March 2014 (UTC) Nick, I'm assuming you'll copy and this to the Manchester page? Regarding the seperate page for Metrolink ot TfGM, the more I think of it the more I think it is a good idea; the "Things to see/do at each destination" section could be removed from the main page. Then on the Metrolink Page a description of things to do at each stop could be slowly created. It would be very sparse at some stops!
- I do like that idea! Perhaps it could be done as a sort of itinerary, that way we wouldn't have to change any policies. Manchester by Metrolink perhaps? It could be similar to West Highland Railway, though with more detail perhaps for every stop? I started a discussion about pages for transport networks here, but it may take a while to come to a conclusion. Please feel free to add your thoughts if you'd like! I'd be pleased to copy across the Metrolink content if you're happy with it: you've done a fantastic job! Thanks, Nick talk 18:50, 21 March 2014 (UTC)
- I've now copied it across to the Manchester article - what do you think? Thanks again for doing this! :) --Nick talk 13:36, 22 March 2014 (UTC)
- Altfish (talk) 13:44, 22 March 2014 (UTC) Looks good, Nick. Thanks, I'll keep it up-to-date as the extensions open and services change.
- That would be great! I still like the idea of a separate page as well and if it's alright with everyone else, that could be a project for the future! --Nick talk 13:46, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

Me again!
[edit]Hello! Sorry to bother you again, but would you mind just looking over the infobox about free city centre tram travel that I've added to Manchester#By train? It's quite complicated and I'm certainly not an expert! Please feel free to add or amend anything as you see fit! --Nick talk 23:08, 6 April 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, course I will, Nick:I may have to brush up on it myself! Altfish (talk) 06:58, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
- It looks fine, reasonable clear but not too many words; I'd leave it as it is. Altfish (talk) 13:14, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

Annan
[edit]Hi. We in WV don't put the city name in listing addresses, since it's already the article's name and therefore, redundant. I've been doing it for years, it's like autopilot mode. However, I clearly see your point. Postcodes in the UK are NOT redundant neither unnecessary. Sorry for disrupting your good work. I'll revert the change. Ibaman (talk) 15:53, 17 August 2016 (UTC)
