Hello, John Broughton! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here. sats (talk) 23:32, 23 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

The "don't tout" guidelines

[edit]

Your edits are greatly appreciated, but please watch some of this language:

"perfect summer spot"

Nothing is perfect, really, and most of the time when we see words like "perfect", they are supplied by people touting their own business or one they're paid to advertise, which is why the word is on Wikivoyage:Words to avoid. Also, rather than just using the word "gourmet", give some examples that demonstrate how, say, their pizza and pasta is gourmet. Do they use unusual combinations (if so, such as what?)? Are their ingredients exclusively organic? Etc.

I won't revert your edit, but please tweak it, and thanks again!

All the best,

Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:14, 13 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Ikan Kekek - thank you for pointing out my mistake. I was surprised to see that you considered reverting the entire edit. I don't see why one mistaken word ("perfect") is a good reason to revert an entire edit that is otherwise acceptable. It seems to me that if there is a problem with a relatively minor part of a listing, it's much preferable to fix that problem than to revert the entire thing. -- John Broughton (talk) 04:29, 13 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
I didn't actually say I considered reverting your edit, but in fact, I usually revert edits with "perfect" in them, because they are usually made by self-interested touters. But you are a long-time user in good faith, so indeed it made much more sense to mention the guidelines and count on you to make some edits. (For the record, I did identify two issues, though. :-) )
Best,

Ikan Kekek - okay, let me rephrase - I'm surprised that you even mentioned reverting my edit. And I've gone back to the listing to change the word "gourmet". John Broughton (talk) 22:27, 13 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Much appreciated. Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:21, 16 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Sonoma Valley listings

[edit]

Thanks again for your very extensive and helpful expansions and updates to a variety of articles! Do have a look at my remarks on Talk:Sonoma Valley at your convenience (they’re much less important than the content you’re adding), and share your views.

All the best,

Ikan Kekek (talk)

Thank you!

I wanted to tell you that I love your extremely helpful and informative edits to the Bodega Bay article. You're making a lot of really valuable edits. Thank you for sticking with the site!

All the best,

Ikan - Thanks. I've got a brother, and his family, visiting in October, and I thought I'd see how much information I could get onto the site for him. -- John Broughton 02:54, 23 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Excellent! I hope they enjoy their trip. Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:24, 23 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

The Plaza

[edit]

In New York, that would be a hotel. In Healdsburg, is "the plaza" capitalized and treated as a proper name? I wouldn't know, but you might. Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:26, 9 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Ikan - I've done some tweaking to avoid confusion. (Yes, it's a proper name.) -- John Broughton 19:00, 9 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
I noticed your edits, which stated that "Healdsburg Plaza" is a proper name but "the plaza" is not. I suspected as much but couldn't be sure. Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:04, 9 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Autopatroller

You've stayed with this site since 2012 and have made a lot of valuable edits. It's definitely high time for you to be an autopatroller. Seasons Greetings, stay safe and healthy, and thank you for all your great work!
