Add topicCape Cod Travel Guide
[edit]Hello David, I am trying to understand why every time I try and add to the Cape Cod wikivoyage page my adds get deleted? Typically, I try and link to a resource for a topic where no external resource currently exists. For example, yesterday while reviewing the list of things to "Do" in Cape Cod, "Beaches" is listed with no other information. I placed a hyperlink to this URL: http://www.capeguide.com/beaches.htm, which lists all of the beaches for Cape Cod and the Islands. Today, the link has been removed. Why is this link not 'allowed' in wikivoyage? I've read the guidelines for wikivoyage which talk about not linking to external travel sites, however, you have allowed two different external travel web sites to link to this same Cape Cod page. Both PinkChoice.com and ProvincetownLive.net are allowed to link to the Cape Cod page in wikivoyage. Why am I not allowed to link to CapeGuide.com? ProvincetownLive.net is exactly the type web site CapeGuide.com is, with a much narrower focus though.
Incidentally, I tried to use the "email this user" link in the toolbox, but I do not have that option available in my toolbox menu. Thank you, Kristen -- Left by: 66.203.75.183 9 July 2008
- Hi, Kristen,
- As explained at Project:External links, links to travel guides are prohibited. Any links to www.capeguide.com would be removable because of this policy. We sometimes miss links, but that does not mean they are allowed... and they should be removed by anyone who finds links against Wikivoyage policies.
- The email link may not be available to anonymous users. --(WT-en) OldPine 13:00, 9 July 2008 (EDT)
Dude!
[edit]This site has become my getaway when I need to escape from other computer tasks, and today I show up and see that you've patrolled and cleaned up everything! Curse you and your masterful efficiency! :) -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 17:20, 1 June 2008 (EDT)
- Ha! I'm taking a break *tag* you are it! Try the orphans... I must be mellowing since I just want to delete them now. Hey our friend actually changes users now to disguise his work. - (WT-en) OldPine 17:23, 1 June 2008 (EDT)
- I managed to find a couple of unpatrolled articles, so you were unable to completely thwart my wiki-break. Ha! And I've noticed that Mainer, or Traveler, or whatever he's calling himself these days seems to morph from one account to another, but his new "I'll make a couple of helpful edits before creating ten articles from the census bureau's list of tiny places" schtick doesn't really bug me as much anymore - he's actually fixed enough "isIn" tags lately to seem almost helpful, or else I'm just mellowing out as I approach "OldWrh2" age :) -- (WT-en) Ryan • (talk) • 17:42, 1 June 2008 (EDT)
Vandalism of Berlin page
[edit]David,
just saw that you are online. A vandal took some effort to destroy section of the Berlin article. I was not able to undo all parts as when I wanted to return to the last version it said that there are intermediate conflicting changes. Can you revert it to the version of 29th May? Thanks mate, (WT-en) Jc8136 07:25, 5 June 2008 (EDT)
- Mate, is there a way to revert multiple entries? (WT-en) Jan 07:25, 5 June 2008 (EDT)
- Thanks for undoing the spam. (WT-en) Jc8136 07:42, 5 June 2008 (EDT)
Correctable
[edit]I would have made the same corrections as you. (WT-en) JimDeLaHunt was the one who noticed and fixed one. I just checked for more of the same sort of accident. -- (WT-en) Colin 14:24, 10 June 2008 (EDT)
Re: Walt Disney World Resort
[edit]Because they're primary sources for the referenced items. They are indeed secondary (or tertiary) sources for the Walt Disney World Resort, but the "Read" subsection is for book suggestions, and they are primary sources for those books (or web sites). (WT-en) LtPowers 12:59, 15 June 2008 (EDT)
- Perhaps we need better guidelines on what goes in the "Read" section. There seems to be very little usage of it, or reference to it outside of Project:Where you can stick it. The guideline you link is contradictory: it says don't link travel guides, but also says to link primary sources. And just to be clear -- some travel guides do offer information at a level of detail that doesn't seem appropriate for Wikivoyage, like the Disney restaurant menus at All Ears Net. That seems to be precisely what the "Read" section was designed for, though I could be wrong. (WT-en) LtPowers 13:23, 15 June 2008 (EDT)
Re: Sun Peaks... and your message to me.
[edit]Hi OldPine. Thanks for the heads up. I've left a vote on the Project:Votes for deletion page. I really thought that ski resorts were fair game for articles since there are so many around already... Anyway, you can read my comments there.. I also see that my username is cauusing a bug with the flashing message indicator... how annoying! -- (WT-en) Occasional Traveller 13:12, 23 June 2008 (EDT)
- Hey, it's always something, huh? Well, the community rules, so whatever happens on VFD -- that's what happens. (WT-en) OldPine 07:31, 24 June 2008 (EDT)
Hi,
You have reverted my recent changes to Romania. As far as I can see, the current version has no links to any accommodation site, and the one I added is the most complete accommodation directory for Romania. I don't understand why my addition was deemed inappropriate or irrelevant... --81.181.249.131 02:33, 8 July 2008 (EDT)
- It's inappropriate because it does not comply with our external link policy. Links to accommodation guides are not allowed, as explained there. We want the information here. We do not want to be a directory of links as it doesn't suit our goals. (WT-en) OldPine 07:01, 8 July 2008 (EDT)
Thank you

Cappadocia protection
[edit]Hey David, just checking whether you meant to protect the article for a full month. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 17:28, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
- I did. Thought I'd seen Jensen do that before. If you think inappropriate, please go ahead and change it. (WT-en) OldPine 19:42, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

[edit]Can this moron's edits be removed entirely? On Wikipedia, they call it "oversighting"; this vile stuff shouldn't even be in the page histories. And the vandalized talk pages that were created new should be deleted rather than just reverted. (WT-en) LtPowers 11:07, 1 August 2008 (EDT)
- I don't think that it can be removed from the histories. It's beyond my limited tech-scope at least. Pages he created can't be reverted and must be deleted. Hey, how long you been around here? Isn't it time we made you an admin? :) (WT-en) OldPine 11:16, 1 August 2008 (EDT)
- Um, almost three months? How much do you trust me? =) (WT-en) LtPowers 11:19, 1 August 2008 (EDT)
- Well, you appear to be an officer and a gentleman. But then I've often been a lousy judge of character. Not to mention the medium is opaque. Let's give it another month or so. No sense ruining your experience just yet ;) (WT-en) OldPine 11:23, 1 August 2008 (EDT)
- Can his IP be banned somehow? What's the procedure for this? Thanks for reverting my page for me. I've been busy with other things. (WT-en) Jargas 07:05, 2 August 2008 (EDT)
- It is possible, but since this is an anonymous user we would be just blocking an IP address and he could easily resurface. For your info, see Project:User ban nominations and, more importantly, the talk page there. (WT-en) OldPine 08:00, 2 August 2008 (EDT)
Florida
[edit]Can I ask you to stop in to take a look at what has been happening on the Florida state page? LtPowers seems to be on a deleting streak... (WT-en) gamweb 15:28, 8 August 2008 (EDT)
- Or you could talk to me first, Gamweb. (WT-en) LtPowers 21:46, 8 August 2008 (EDT)
Massachusetts
[edit]Hey David, I was thinking of putting together a Massachusetts regions map—do you know if the existing regions are solid enough to move forward on?
Also, re:Boston districts, the biggest piece of advice I can give is to start with a map. If you can find a map that shows some sort of borders that already exist, that's great. If not, you could come up with some basic region borders, and I'll throw together a map from which you can get sorting. The process Marc and I went through with Chicago is Talk:Chicago#Districts discussion. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 04:34, 11 August 2008 (EDT)
- Are these regions final yet? I'm kind of itching to remove Massachusetts from the list of states still lacking regions maps! --(WT-en) Peter Talk 22:05, 29 September 2008 (EDT)

Chatham MA
[edit]David, I was pointed to this site via Leo Laporte podcast, and see that you are the most frequent updater of the Chatham page. I am wondering if accomodations other than motels/hotels/B&B are ever listed, such as weekly cottage rentals? I'm asking because I own/run a cottage colony that could use some extra low-cost publicity. I was unable to find a email link so posted via method. You can contact me via PleasantForestShores@yahoo.com and/or via this page. Thanks! John H.72.72.108.171 17:57, 20 August 2008 (EDT)
- Hi, John, Yes, cottage listings are acceptable. Have a look at Project:Accommodation listings for guidelines and Project:Welcome, business owners might help. You could also contribute to the Chatham article and/or print it out to leave in your cottage. (WT-en) OldPine 18:28, 20 August 2008 (EDT)
Florida Panhandle
[edit]David, I would like to rework the Florida Panhandle and would appreciate your input: Talk:Florida_Panhandle (WT-en) gamweb 18:21, 24 August 2008 (EDT)
David, I've been trying to bring this page up to "guide" status for a link from the Florida state page. I found a US Park Service map of camping areas here: . Can you turn this into a map here, as I don't know how to do that. I will probably make a trip to CANA soon to take some photos. I found some photos on Wikipedia, but the license is not compatible here. (WT-en) gamweb 20:25, 6 September 2008 (EDT)
Orlando Protection Proposal
[edit]David, Orlando is constantly being spammed with links and other things that do not belong. I wanted to propose a permanent semi-protection (so that anonymous users cannot edit). Maybe that will cut down on the abuse. I have to go visit the page every day to either delete or move something to another city. (WT-en) gamweb 03:04, 7 September 2008 (EDT)

Need Advice
[edit]You gave some good advice on my posts on Decatur, Georgia. I have someone who keeps posting a liquor store that does not need to be on this list (along with a small mexican restaurant of no note). There are several 5-6 better mexican restaurants and closer liquor stores to the city, and the listing is highly suspicious (for someone to list side by side modest establishments outside the city surrounded by a car wash and car dealerships). I am even wondering if they have an affliation with the store? I have done a lot of posts on wikipedia (less on wikivoyage) and recognize there are edits I do not agree with. However, this is really bizarre - these establishments do not belong on this list. Is there anything to do when something like this happens? Thanks.--(WT-en) Baxterguy 08:59, 23 September 2008 (EDT)
Vandaliszing Troll?

[edit]Please check a dictionary before you change all the time symbols. a.m. and p.m. are correct, not AM and PM. (WT-en) Greenmango 21:08, 5 October 2008 (EDT)

Peter has a lovely way with words... glad to see you checking in again.
