User talk:Nicholasjf21/Tourist Office
Hi Nick, thanks for showing me this. Looks interesting. I like the initial impact of the banner and the wopping big "i". The graphics could use more jazzing up still, a jazzed up lightbulb maybe. The page idea is entirely experimental. I don't expect it to work but I would like it to. And maybe, just maybe, it might. Who will have the nerve to ask questions? Who will have the nerve to answer them? Those people are out there. So it is a network puzzle how to plug them into each other and the Tourist Office. I am bolding the name because I like it and haven't found another I like better. I think it would reside at Help:Tourist Office and have a redirect to it from Tourist Office or maybe it could just be at Tourist Office, why not? Or Help:Info! Everyone wants "Info". So, take it and run, and name it whatever you want. So many good names to choose from. Keeping it simple and easy to type as a link or directly into the browser location bar from memory could be a winning point. "Bureau" is just a little hard to spell. But whatever clicks for the people doing it is the way to go.
I won't be producing this thing myself. I'm just too busy with other stuff (one you might enjoy is m:Wikivoyage/Gallery). The other night I hacked out the prototype Tourist Office (I don't even remember where I put it) page because it just seemed like the obvious thing to do. But getting it to actually work with the community is going to require people like you taking it and running with it. Alas, I'm just too busy to do more with it at the moment, nor do I really know what to do next anyway. But jazzy images surely. Thank for dropping a link on my talk page where I would see it (because Mediawiki notifies users of changes to their talk pages). SAY, please tell me something: Dose my modifying this subpage of your talk page trigger the orange page top notice?--Did Mediawiki notify you with an orange page top notice that "someone has edit this page"? --Rogerhc (talk) 01:30, 20 February 2013 (UTC)
- Hi! Thanks very much for your very kind comments! I think you're right about the name and I've changed it to Tourist Office now. I didn't receive a notification about this, no - it was only by looking at my watchlist that I discovered you had posted. I'll do my best to throw this idea into the community and get people interested in the idea - I really do think it could work! I'll try and jazz it up a bit more and we'll see how far we get! --Nicholasjf21 (talk) 09:25, 20 February 2013 (UTC)
- Oh, so you only get orange notice when your Talk page itself is edited. Oh well. Hope you see this, too. I have edited your version. Hope I helped. Just let me know if you would prefer me to comment here instead of editing directly. The input boxes are an interesting touch but are not working well yet. Trouble getting wiki markup to do what HTML does as usual. One input box with more than one choice of action buttons is really what would be good there, but I don't know how to get that with wiki markup. Also, the link "Ask a new question" looks like a title for the input boxes more than an actionable link. So things to solve. Might be simpler and more readable to stick with what wiki markup does. Anyway, back to you! :-) Rogerhc (talk) 19:49, 22 February 2013 (UTC)
