Just a quick FYI - this expired recently, maybe you want to renew it: ~ 203.144.143.4 21:03, 18 January 2008 (EST)
- If it happens again, I'll protect the page. Seems you were the last person to edit and I suspect that was a while ago, right? -- (WT-en) Sapphire • (Talk) • 07:19, 19 January 2008 (EST)

Annoyed
[edit]So the top of this page says I can post when I'm annoyed. Well, I'm annoyed. Can someone tell me how to set up a proxy that will give me an American IP address? Thanks. -- (WT-en) Sapphire • (Talk) • 18:51, 23 September 2007 (EDT)
- You can google for public proxy or if you want to spend some money get yourself a virtual private server (google a bit, pricing starts at around US$5/month) and set up a proxy just for you. --(WT-en) NJR_ZA 05:21, 27 September 2007 (EDT)

[edit]Hey Andrew, I started with Georgian before I went there—using an old Soviet teach-yourself guide in Russian (I don't recommend this approach). I studied it a bit while in country, but I mostly just spoke Russian while traveling around (except more remote areas). I audited two quarters worth of Georgian after coming back, and we used what is probably the most useful book in English, Howard Aronson's Georgian: A reading grammar. It's not ideal, and not terribly practical if you're looking to learn useful phrases for a basic travel vocabulary, but it still is the best thing available. I somehow came across a pdf version of it—you might be able to find one online. If you don't, shoot me an email and I'll see if I can't send it over the internet (35MB). In any rate, the alphabet and pronunciation are a lot of fun, but the grammar is kind of nightmarish. I don't know if you're in to poetry at all, but the Georgians have produced some really cool stuff.
I'm in Toledo on the campaign trail for Obama, hoping to see an upset here. Knocking on doors isn't terribly fun, but I definitely wouldn't call it the worst place on earth. The weather has actually been pretty warm, there's a great pizza place by where I'm staying, and I was amazed at how great the art museum is, given that this is a rather small and poor city. But hey, my next stops are Detroit and Hell, so it would be odd to complain about Toledo! --(WT-en) Peter Talk 13:49, 3 March 2008 (EST)
Thanks for fighting vandals (Lame and 84.42.254.138)
[edit](WT-en) OldPine and (WT-en) Sapphire, I just came across the vandalism by Lame and 84.42.254.138 on March 4. Thank you for your diligent work to clean it up, and so quickly. You had it all done before I even noticed the problem. I hope those vandals are feeling unfulfilled. (WT-en) JimDeLaHunt 17:43, 5 March 2008 (EST)
Japan

Pomeranian Voivodship
[edit]I redirected them all the Pomeranian Voivodship, since most English speakers have heard of "Pomerania" (if only because of the dog breed) but most have never heard it as "Pomorskie" (including me). (WT-en) Texugo 11:14, 12 March 2008 (EDT)
Interwiki links on article templates
[edit]At first glance I thought, hey what a cool idea, but then, won't the {{subst:PAGENAME}} links not work, since they need to be in the foreign language? And might these provisional links confuse the interwiki language linking bot (which I suppose is not running right now)? --(WT-en) Peter Talk 12:05, 12 March 2008 (EDT)
- You're kinda correct. The {{subst:PAGENAME}} can simply be replaced by the localized name, but for cities like Paris, which essentially has the same name and spelling in most languages, it's not an issue. Not sure about DorganBot (I'll ask once I've tired myself with Poland), but we've been using this system for months, if not a year, on de: and it's been effective and helps to keep everything nice and organized. Also, DorganBot operates on de: and I haven't been clued into any issues, thus far. -- (WT-en) Sapphire • (Talk) • 12:14, 12 March 2008 (EDT)
Comments please
[edit]Hey, I left a couple of questions I'd like to have you comment on, at Talk:Poland, Talk:Greater Poland and Talk:Kujawsko-Pomorskie_Voivodship. Thanks! (WT-en) Texugo 08:39, 16 March 2008 (EDT)
- Knocked out comment out, but, alas, I must go forth into the world, so I'll need to comment on the other two later. Cheers. -- (WT-en) Sapphire • (Talk) • 08:55, 16 March 2008 (EDT)
Question about Warsaw
[edit]Hi, I saw you are Decent for the Warsaw article and I wondered if you could help me find out about markets in the city? I want to know about markets that are famous or happen at specific time etc, not supermarkets. Could you help me by any chance.
Every one loves Irish people, because they just have better advertising than the rest of the world, this was a frequent topic on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monkey_Dust213.38.11.86 10:06, 25 April 2008 (EDT)
- Let's see, well, depends on what you mean by market. Do you want food markets? If so, I'll ask my friend, because he goes to a few, but if you're looking for a bazaar, then you have to go to the Russian Market. I can't remember when exactly its open, but I think it's Saturday and Sunday, but you'll want to go before 10:00, because things could start closing down around noon or 13:00. In Your Pocket recommends another two markets, but I'd never heard of them. I definitely recommend the Russian Market and if you go with friends, you'll likely have a good laugh at some of the things you'll find. I even found an AK-47 through a F.O.A.F., although, I was mostly curious as to whether someone could actually ascertain weapons of that caliber through the back alley deals. Unfortunately, the Russian Market isn't as fun as it was in late 2004 with even crazier inventories available for sale. Now, you'll find knives, communist memorabilia, clothing that probably fell off a truck, and household supplies, but there are still some entertaining things. If you don't speak Polish, you'll be able to get by if you pick up some German, Russian, and English. A lot of people will try to communicate in German. -- (WT-en) Sapphire • (Talk) • 12:31, 28 April 2008 (EDT)
Berlin vandals
[edit]Andrew, the Berlin page is plagued by them vandals (http://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/User_talk:OldPine#Vandalism_of_Berlin_page). Is there a way to do multiple reverts? Thanks mate (WT-en) Jc8136 07:36, 5 June 2008 (EDT)

Updates?
[edit]Hi all,
It's good to be away from drill sergeants and back to working on Wikivoyage, but with a ~ 9 week absence I'd like a run down on policy changes and any major discussions. Could you help me out? Feel free to email me (user page for those of you who do not already have it) and/or talk page. I'd appreciate it and thanks in advance! -- (WT-en) Sapphire • (Talk) • 00:04, 17 August 2008 (EDT)
- Not much of note on the English version, but take a look at the pub and IB-related stuff on shared—most policy & other major discussions have migrated there. And glad to have you back ;) --(WT-en) Peter Talk 00:33, 17 August 2008 (EDT)

Info from Pl wikivoyage
[edit]On the polish project the current situation isn’t good. We don’t have new users and only one administrator have care on this project – that me. In the some time we have many attacks, I thing, from the zombie computers, placing web addresses on many page. That mean, that I have only time to patrol every day recent changes, making reverts and blocking this IP addresses (only foreigner, never from Poland). Best regards Paweł Drozd – Drozdp
- Would it helped if I volunteered to be an admin and helped revert pages? My Polish is slowly improving, so maybe that could help free up your time to work more on articles. Also, I have an idea to recruit users, but I'll try to send that in an email to you in the coming days. -- (WT-en) Sapphire • (Talk) • 16:25, 5 December 2008 (EST)
Highway navigation box
[edit]Hi there. I have proposed a new sort of navigation box here. I would really appreciate your input. (WT-en) Texugo 06:47, 5 December 2008 (EST)
- Hi again. I have implemented the box for a test region and developed a preliminary set of guidelines. Everyone seems really anxious to start rolling this out, but I want to make sure our strongest contributors like you are behind this, since it may very well sweep the site. The discussion is now here. If you could give it a whirl again and let me know your thoughts, I would be grateful. Thanks in advance! (WT-en) Texugo 12:02, 14 December 2008 (EST)
- I'll get around to it... I just landed in NYC, against my best wishes and need some food. -- (WT-en) Sapphire • (Talk) • 22:01, 14 December 2008 (EST)
NWA
[edit]Gotta say I disagree, had a great experience with them recently... and their online booking was seemless, keeping the need for speaking with retarded people to a minimum ;) – (WT-en) cacahuate talk 00:57, 21 December 2008 (EST)
- Haha. I don't hate the entire company. Just one dumbass and the people that are actually competent and have to obey fare rules that some retard incorrectly described to me. Or maybe it's the web designer for not using headers and subheaders more clearly. I do love their gate agents -- I had four seats that I was sprawled out sleeping on. Now, that was very pleasant. -- (WT-en) Sapphire • (Talk) • 01:06, 21 December 2008 (EST)
- Oh my bad, I was referring to the rap group... yeah, the airline is cool too – (WT-en) cacahuate talk 01:10, 21 December 2008 (EST)
- Oh, no -- it's my bad. I don't like them either -- but that was a different airplane incident that I'd rather forget and put behind me forever. -- (WT-en) Sapphire • (Talk) • 01:21, 21 December 2008 (EST)
