Welcome and some remarks about "words to avoid"
[edit]Hello, Talefiko! Welcome to Wikivoyage.
To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. New users are also welcome to post any questions or concerns to the arrivals lounge. If you want some practice editing, please do so on our graffiti wall. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here. If you want to contribute with information about the place where you live, see Wikivoyage:Welcome, locals.
Thanks very much for your work on the Kythnos article! However, it would be good if you wouldn't reinstate the use of the word "ideal" and the phrase "ideal for families" without comment. If you haven't read this edit summary, please have a look, and also look at Wikivoyage:Words to avoid. I don't want to overemphasize this; adding information is the most important thing to do, and phrasing can always be tweaked later. But wikis are collaboratively edited, so if you think your form of words is very important, the collaborative thing to do is post an argument at Talk:Kythnos explaining why, not to start an edit war.
All the best,
Tavern != taverna
[edit]"A taverna (Greek: ταβέρνα) is a small Greek restaurant that serves Greek cuisine."
But:
"A tavern is a place of business where people gather to drink alcoholic beverages and be served food such as different types of roast meats and cheese, and (mostly historically) where travelers would receive lodging. An inn is a tavern that has a license to put up guests as lodgers. The word derives from the Latin taberna whose original meaning was a shed, workshop, stall, or pub. Over time, the words 'tavern' and 'inn' became interchangeable and synonymous. In England, inns started to be referred to as public houses or pubs and the term became standard for all drinking houses."
I suggest for you to use the word "taverna" to describe restaurants that would be called "taverna" in Greek. And thanks again for all the work you're doing! Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:20, 28 June 2022 (UTC)
