This region is bounded by Guatemala to the West, Honduras to the East and the Pacific Ocean to the South. It includes the departments of Ahuachapán, Cabañas, Chalatenango, Cuscatlán, La Libertad, La Paz, San Salvador, Santa Ana and Usulután.
San Salvador international airport (SAL IATA) is the main gateway to the region with a number of flights to destinations in Central and North America as well as some destinations in Europe.
