History

The name Grenville evokes the memory of George Grenville, a British politician. The toponymic designation of the municipality derives from the former township of Grenville, from one of the two previous municipalities amalgamated into the current municipality, as well as the name of the Red River which crosses the territory from north to south.

The municipality of Grenville-sur-la-Rouge's motto is "De coeur et de nature" (Heart and nature).
