Laurel is a small town in Southern Delaware with a population of 4,200 people (2016).

U.S. Route 13 is the main north-south road in Laurel, heading north toward Seaford and Dover and south to Delmar and Salisbury. U.S. Route 9 begins at U.S. Route 13 in Laurel and heads northeast toward Georgetown and Lewes. Delaware Route 24 runs east-west through Laurel, heading west to Sharptown, Maryland and east to Millsboro.

DART First State bus Route 212 serves Laurel, providing access from Georgetown, Bridgeville, Seaford, and Delmar.

While it has no mass transit, the town has paved roads with approximately 3 stoplights that extend throughout the entire local area, facilitating travel by car or bike to the many points of interest in and around Laurel.

Bald cypress trees at Trap Pond State Park

Laurel, and most of the surrounding area, is home to some of the largest chicken houses in the state. These are a must see. They are also extremely easy to find because along with being pretty much everywhere, if you ever lose your way just simply follow your nose. You can also drive through miles and miles of flat but beautiful countryside. Many big woods that always have deer and other animals roaming through (until hunting season begins that is). The Laurel Little League has about ten fields and during seasonal play there are over 6 different age groups that play.

Trap Pond offers boating and fishing, with boat rentals available during the summer months. Recreational amenities at Trap Pond State Park include the 4.9-mile Boundary Trail around the pond, the Baldcypress Nature Center, picnic areas, volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, and a playground.
