I am planning a roadtrip from Maryland to New Mexico for the October 2023 Annular Solar Eclipse. I have never been west of the Mississippi River before so if you have any travel advice, please contact me directly. I specifically need advice on things to see and do between Maryland and New Mexico (places to sleep, places to eat, places to photograph) as well as safety advice: do I need a CB radio for rural areas without cellular telephone service? can I use a vehicle with two-wheel drive in the deserts of New Mexico? what supplies should I have in the car? can I sleep in the car or camp for free? what is the best way to cook food on the road without paying for restaurants? should I carry extra gasoline in the car if exploring rural areas of New Mexico? if I can't afford a hotel how do I maintain personal hygiene when traveling? how can I protect myself from criminals when traveling?
