Not to be confused with Pinos Altos in New Mexico.

Pinos Altos is a town in the state of Durango, Mexico. It consists of about 50 blocks of houses, located along Mexican Highway 23.

Understand

Location

Altos is located a few miles north of Nuevo Ideal in Mexico. Being at an elevation of several thousand feet, Pinos Altos experiences cooler weather than that of Baja California and the rest of central-northern Mexico. Going south from Altos, one would take the Highway 23 and then Highway 45 south to reach the city of Durango, Mexico.

A dirt road leads from Highway 23 to the town. Another dirt road leads out the other side of the town, climbing the mountains before reaching a small lake and a few houses.

Climate

The Altos region is mostly dry, although the land is dominated by fields. The mountains, unlike valley regions, have trees.
