Katonah, a small residential town with a unique "Mom & Pop" business district, is the culturally central hamlet of the town of Bedford, the three hamlets of which are Katonah, Bedford Hills and Bedford Village (each with its own post offices and libraries). The hamlet of Katonah offers a variety of dining, community events and library fairs. Katonah is generally calm, and not much can be found open in town after 10 PM besides restaurants.

  • Caramoor Center for Music and Arts, 149 Girdle Ridge Rd, +1 914 232-5035. Mediterranean villa set on an 80 acre estate. A festival and concert space host to numerous prominent performers and performances, can be found within town limits. One of New York's most elegant and well-known concert spaces, the spacious area is perhaps Katonah's primary cultural attraction. Take afternoon tea and tour or attend one of their evening concerts.
  • Katonah Museum of Art. A world renowned Art Museum, very close to the hamlet's center.
  • John Jay Homstead, 400 Jay St. (Rt. 22). The last home of the United States' first Supreme Court Justice, John Jay, and a state historic site.

The larger town of Bedford is notable for the outdoors opportunities. Numerous reservations are scattered throughout the area, the largest of which is the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation center. WPR provides an excellent space for camping, hiking and biking, with numerous trails, campsites, shelters, and a museum. Bedford is also home to part of the reservoir system which provides New York city its drinking water. Regulated fishing and ice fishing can be found there and in nearby lakes and reservoirs.

A Metro North Train station can be found on the North end of the hamlet, offering easy access to Manhattan, as well as nearby Mount Kisco and Pleasantville. Mount Kisco features numerous restaurants and a New Line Cinema, while Pleasantville offers a similar quaint town experience to that of Katonah, with the notable addition of the Jacob Burns film center, offering independent and foreign films to the surrounding area. Katonah residents know the value of their own town's charm but also note the convenience of having varied offerings so easily accessible.
