Europe > Eastern Europe > Russia > Northwestern Russia > Komi Republic > Ust-Tsilma

Ust-Tsilma (Russian: Усть-Ци́льма, Komi: Чилимдін) is in the northwest of the Komi Republic.

Understand

[edit]

Ust-Tsilma is a village of about 5,000 on the Pechora River at the mouth of the Tsilma and Pizhma rivers, located in the north of the Komi Republic. The village was founded by the Novgorodians in 1542 in the XVII-XVIII centuries. A large number of Old Believers who moved away from the persecution of the authorities moved to Ust-Tsilma. The rich folk traditions of the Russian North have been well preserved in Ust-Tsilma.
