Sandusky County Courthouse in Fremont

Sandusky County is in Northwest Ohio. The county seat is Fremont. The S/W part of Sandusky Bay is in Sandusky County as well as the Sandusky River flowing North into the bay. The northern part of the county is popular with fishermen who wade the river and fish the south end of the bay where fish traffic is heavy during the spawning period. It was also the home of Rutherford B. Hayes, the 19th President of the United States, where he practiced law from 1845 to 1849 before moving to Cincinnati.

Understand

The area where the Sandusky River flows north from Fremont, to Sandusky Bay is mostly flood plain. Trying to access the land or river between SR 53 and SR 6, is difficult. There are few if any E/W bridges north of I 80/90 to SR 2. If you want to access the river in that area it would have to be by boat from Fremont. This most difficult spot, is one of the more popular areas to fish in or view undisturbed areas of the north coast.
