Talk:Ad's Path
van(nl) means of(en) in English and not small truck, usually rendered as a genitive with 's in English.
I'm struggling a bit with the name for this article. It might have to be renamed, but to what?
- Ad's itinerary is what I came up with, maybe a bit technical
- Ad's path, is Texugo's version, but it's not about his garden path
- In the footsteps of Ad Wouters, would be in line with other articles, but he's not the calibre of a Marco Polo, of course

- "Ad Wouters sculpture path" maybe? ϒpsilon (talk) 15:41, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- "Ad's Way"? Texugo (talk) 15:58, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- I like "Pad van Ad" because it has a nice rhyme in the name. I'd keep it. Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:33, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- It does have a nice ring to it. I was a bit worried, as each of these Dutch words mean something totally different in English. Would it help to have "Ad's Path" over the banner image to make it clear what it stands for?
- I don't like Ad's way very much, as way in that phrase can have yet another meaning, as in the only way to get something done.
- I hope you like what I did with the banner. I'm really glad how it all worked out with the POIs on the slippy map. I tried to achieve the same on nl and fr, but here it's the most 'advanced'. I also added a GPX template. Now that layer's always switched on in the slippy map though. But it's not a big deal. --Polyglot (talk) 22:32, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- I suspect the pagebanner will be nixed, because I can't think of any other page for which a gallery or collage was approved for a pagebanner, and several examples in which it wasn't. Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:09, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
- Yeah, sorry, but I removed the banner, as our image policy specifically disallows montages. Texugo (talk) 21:00, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
- If we want to translate the Dutch name, "Ad's Path" would be fine. Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:15, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
- I think if the page title is going to read "Ad's Path" we might as well move the page there and let "Pad van Ad" be a redirect there. Texugo (talk) 01:51, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
- You're the native English speakers, so I'm going to leave that decision to you guys. Is there a risk it gets misunderstood? I think so, but since "Notepad pickup van advertisement" doesn't make a lot of sense anyhow, I guess people might get that it's Dutch. At least it's less confusing than the BROOD/PAIN I saw on a bread dispenser around here... Brood is Dutch for bread, pronounced brohd, whereas Pain is the French word.

- Do you know why the Markers under Go Next started renumbering?--Polyglot (talk) 21:27, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
[unindent] I agree with Texugo: We should rename the article Ad's Path and make Pad van Ad a redirect. Any objections? Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:45, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
Next level
[edit]OK, what else is there to do? Should I have a look around the region for bed&breakfasts? I can think of 2 or 3, but only have personal experience with one of those. Or should they be mentioned in an article about the region and not in the itinerary? Only this one is in the exact area where the route passes: http://www.debibliotheek.be/index.php?lang=en. There is also this: http://www.bremberg.be/ I think that's quite upscale. But it's very near to the itinerary. Should I list all the restaurants which are all somewhat clustered around Zoete Waters in full detail? I think I already have all the do items. Although there is also a manege, 2 actually (well the second is an official 'riding school', but I don't see people switch to riding horseback when doing a hike or bicycle ride. I could elaborate on the Speelbos a bit. It's quite unique in the region, created by the forestry service. With toys made of tree trunks (mostly smaller trees). I had planned to create a separate article about it. This would make it easier to mention (or refer to) it in articles about other routes or about the walking node network of Zuid-Dijleland.--Polyglot (talk) 21:27, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
- It may make more sense to list restaurants and B&Bs in locality guides, with the locality articles linked from this article. Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:02, 26 April 2014 (UTC)
- I'll start an article about the region and mention it there. Is there something more this itinerary needs? After all this effort, I'm aiming to have it considered a guide article, of course :-)--Polyglot (talk) 08:30, 27 April 2014 (UTC)
- This article is quite arguably already a Guide. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:24, 27 April 2014 (UTC)

Automatic numbering
[edit]The following logic has been agreed: All sections (==H2==) are numbered separately. Only the general template {{listing| may be used in all sections and is numbered continuously. -- Joachim Mey2008 (talk) 09:09, 27 April 2014 (UTC)
Link to WP?
[edit]Something that does bother me, is that it's not possible to go directly from this article to the WP page about Ad Wouters. It's not possible to create an article with the same name on both projects. Ad's Path is not noteworthy enough for an encyclopedia and this site is not about artists, so having an article about him here doesn't make sense either. Anyway, I was trying to jump from this article to WP, and I couldn't. I understand that it needs to be possible to read the article when offline, as well, but in many parts of the world, mobile internet is becoming more and more affordable, and thus ubiquitous. Anyway, the whole concept of the internet is that information is linked, so linking to sister project sites should be engrained, rather than discouraged, but that's just my opinion. Still I'd think it'd make sense to link to WP somehow. There is a link from there over here as well like this Template:Wikivoyage--Polyglot (talk) 01:04, 29 January 2015 (UTC)
- My feeling is that the point of the WP link in the sidebar is that it should be the one that's most directly analogous to the article here. So if the most nearly analogous article were w:Ad Wouters, I'd support linking it. But in this case, there's really an easy solution: Link the relevant section of that article! So I will add a link to w:Ad Wouters#Ad's itinerary. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:37, 29 January 2015 (UTC)
Picture with a statue, a forest road and some forest
[edit]I particularly like this one:
The only thing that's odd about that one, is that that tree isn't dead. But I suppose the forestry people know what they are doing when they give Ad permission to use a tree for his works.

Galleries
[edit]I find some of the images a bit small in the galleries. I'm wondering how this article would look with regular-sized thumbnails for the images in the galleries. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:54, 31 January 2015 (UTC)
Image thumbnail on map
[edit]I though I would add images to the POIs on the map. The thumbnail does however not display, although though press to enlarge does. Assume this is because files are not on Commons. --Traveler100 (talk) 09:14, 1 February 2015 (UTC)
Hike on 22nd of March 2015
[edit]On the 22nd of March we'll be hiking (parts of) the trail. It is my intention to make more pictures of the whole itinerary and add them to Mapillary.com. We'll take bus 18 to get us to the farthest point, then slowly make our way west, where we take bus 337 to get back. There may be people who want to take a train back to Leuven from the station of Oud-Heverlee.
I created a map on umap for this.
The initial idea was to extend the path to Leuven, but since I abandoned that idea in the mean time, I went out by bicyle last week, to make those pictures:
