Soliciting opinions about a link[edit]

Hello, everyone! An enthusiastic contributor has posted this[1] link, which I moved up to the topmost section of the article. It's the "official website for Accommodation and Activities in Cairngorms National Park." By any other name, it appears to be a "hotel or travel booking services or aggregator," which would violate the first bulleted item on Project:External links#What not to link to. However, the fact that its homepage is copyright Cairngorms Business Partnership gives it what seems to me a genuine official status most booking services and aggregators lack. Is this site a gray area? What do you all think? (WT-en) Ikan Kekek 04:04, 25 May 2011 (EDT)

It can be very difficult at times to determine whether a site is "official" or not. See for example the city/town sites of some US towns - they can be little more than commercial booking sites. In this case, all the material at http://www.visitcairngorms.com is copyright The Caingorms Business Partnership. This is a good source of information about that organisation: http://www.cairngorms.co.uk/resource/docs/boardpapers/23012009/CNPA.Paper.2743.Board.Board.Paper.1.A.pdf. The official link for the Caingorms National Park is http://www.cairngorms.co.uk/ ,and in my view that is the only one that should be used. Http://www.visitcairngorms.com is a booking service, albeit one that is a good deal less nasty than most that try to post at WT, and should be disallowed as per Project:External links#What not to link to. --(WT-en) Burmesedays 04:33, 25 May 2011 (EDT)
As an aside, I think the efforts of anybody familiar with this wonderful NP would be better placed improving what is a woeful article, rather than posting an accommodation service link. This is an A Grade destination with a very poor article, and any help from familiar users would be much appreciated.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 04:36, 25 May 2011 (EDT)
I tend to agree on both counts. I would welcome user Visitcairngorms' input in this discussion and appreciate the notice you gave on his/her user talk page. (WT-en) Ikan Kekek 04:48, 25 May 2011 (EDT)

Park update[edit]

Cairngorms NP is currently positioned as a part of Great Glen, but it ranges across two counties and touches on three more.

I propose that, as with other "Park" pages, listings associated with a town should migrate there, leaving this page as a round-up or gather-all. This will be a gradual process as those towns first need a bit of work. Grahamsands (talk) 22:22, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

PS As the park has been extended, especially into Perth & Kinross, the static map needs adjusting. Grahamsands (talk) 22:25, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with your proposal, and have removed the static map (see edit summary).-- ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 23:02, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
