Proposal to move[edit]

Since we have an article on Cycling in Scotland, which is better developed than this article, I propose to to move this one to Cycling in England and Wales to provide more focus. Ground Zero (talk) 17:51, 25 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Makes sense, although I think we could just call it Cycling in England. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 19:14, 25 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
My impression is that this article is mainly about cycling on roads, and Cycling in Scotland is mainly about off-road cycling, although there is some overlap. I think that on-road cycling is very similar between Scotland and England, but off-road cycling has more differences, due to the different legal situations when cycling on somebody's land. Although both articles need expansion, I am not so sure about a move. It would also mean that there would be nothing about cycling in Northern Ireland. The article now has no information about cycling in NI. Should we assume that cycling in NI is the same as in England? Or is it better not to have an article claiming to cover NI when we have no information about the subject? ::: Similarly, Alisidair, what is your view on "Cycling in England" vs "Cycling in England and Wales"? I realise there is no specific info here on Wales, but at least the two countries are contiguous. Ground Zero (talk) 00:55, 26 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
On road cycling is fairly similar throughout the UK. Off road is different in Scotland due to the outdoor access code. England and Wales are fairly similar with the possibility of using public bridleways. At the moment the article only covers NI with the link to Sustrans, and I don't know the off-road situation there.. AlasdairW (talk) 01:15, 26 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Would it perhaps make sense to merge the two articles? --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 11:08, 26 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That proposal, on the Talk:Cycling in Scotland page, failed for reasons identified there. Ground Zero (talk) 12:20, 26 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

So then it would seems to make sense to move this to Cycling in England and Wales, and make sure there is a reference to SusTrans at Northern Ireland. Okay? Ground Zero (talk) 14:12, 26 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 14:15, 26 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That looks good. I'll try to think of a short para about off-road cycling in England and Wales. AlasdairW (talk) 05:44, 27 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Happy new year. Ground Zero (talk) 18:14, 1 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
