Car-dependent country?
[edit]Really? According to w:List of countries by vehicles per capita, Vietnam has only 53 motor vehicles per 1000 people. Something seems odd or at least incomplete here. —Granger (talk · contribs) 17:28, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
- I don't have any in-depth insights into the society, but I've been to Vietnam. "Car-dependent" seems a bit off, and I wouldn't limit "motorcycle-dependent" to some cities. These days, motorized scooters are the most common means of transportation. It is not common to personally own a car, but hiring a driver is the only option to get to some places comfortably. Then, there are also buses of different sizes and (at least along the cost) trains. --F30 (talk) 08:27, 18 December 2023 (UTC)
- Am I right in interpreting that as that tourists mostly use cars, usually with a local driver (still trains or buses for intercity travel, I assume), while most locals cannot afford a car but walk or use scooters? –LPfi (talk) 09:59, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, this sounds accurate according to my experience as a tourist. Additionally, it is somewhat common to rent a scooter and ride yourself even as a tourist (even though strictly speaking, the legal driving license situation is questionable). Some tourists may also hop on the backseat of a scooter instead of a taxi. --F30 (talk) 10:56, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks. I've tried to adjust the article based on this discussion – please improve as needed. —Granger (talk · contribs) 15:05, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
