Spelling

[edit]

Is Arbil or Erbil used more in English? What we shouldn't do is use both interchangeably, because that's confusing. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:08, 21 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

As always when it comes to spelling and names I think we should follow Wikipedia's spelling (for consistency throughout all Wikimedia sites) unless we have a good reason not to. So in this case it'd be Erbil. And as Arbil, Irbil and Hawler per WP are common names for the city, I think we should have redirects from these. Just my 2 cents. I'm OK with that. Anyone object to renaming the article and changing all the spellings of the name in the article accordingly? Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:11, 21 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
I was in Erbil last month and from my experience, the most common spelling is Erbil. So I would recommend changing to that.Davidbstanley (talk) 21:39, 22 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
Done, with the name also changed in the text. Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:59, 23 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
That is the City that I live in and that is correct it is commonly called Erbil... Sarbast.T.Hameed (talk) 12:41, 24 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Jalil Khayat Mosque

[edit]

Mentioned twice as the largest mosque, two different points? —The preceding comment was added by dlolw (talkcontribs)

The two listings just needed merging together; they were clearly about the same mosque. Thanks for bringing it up.ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 08:49, 27 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

The second one is used, and since the reason is no freedom of panorama, we need to save this locally if we want to keep it. It's not a great photo; what do you think? It still seems useful. Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:48, 7 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
Done. Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:04, 10 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
There are other images of the mosque in the category (Commons:Category:Jalil Al Khayat Mosque). Is this the one we want to keep? –LPfi (talk) 06:35, 11 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
If you like another one better, please substitute as long as it has no watermarks. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:51, 11 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
I don't have any specific preferences, I just noted you said it was "not great". Easier to choose now, before they are deleted. –LPfi (talk) 09:04, 11 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
The problem is that by far the best photo has a watermark on it. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:27, 11 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
However, I'll upload another one and delete this one. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:29, 11 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
