Feedback Request for Fuding Article Expansion
[edit]I have recently expanded the opening sentence of the Fuding article to provide more context and highlight some of the most interesting aspects of this location. I would like to seek your feedback on the changes to ensure that the article remains accurate, engaging, and informative for our readers. Thank you. Syouziiye (talk) 04:47, 18 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Ikan Kekek @Ground Zero Just in case you have time - nobody reviewed this. Seems good to me but perhaps you'd like to suggest something to fix? Hanyangprofessor2 (talk) 08:14, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- I hadn't looked at this article before. I would praise it for having a lot of substantive content and some nice pictures, and I don't want the following comments to detract from that, though they are much longer than my praise.
- An obvious place for expansion is "Eat." It's great to mention local specialties, but visitors need listings of recommended eateries, so it's important to add some. Another obvious missing piece is the absent "Go next" section. Some other issues I'm noticing are that we tend to avoid extreme superlatives like "perfect" and "ideal", which are mentioned in words to avoid, and some subheadings are in title case instead of the sentence case shown at Wikivoyage:Capitalization. Also, some editing for brevity would be welcome. Here's an example from the lede (introduction):
- "Fuding is also famous for its abundant white tea, which attracts tea lovers to taste and experience the traditional tea-making process, allowing people to feel the unique local tea culture."
- could be reduced to something like:
- "Fuding is also famous for its abundant white tea, which is well-loved by connoisseurs."
- I think some of the blocks of black text in listings could be reduced, too. Here's an obvious example, from the second "See" listing:
- "The stream bends, the green hills on both sides of the bank are sandwiched, the green trees are verdant, the strange stones stand in a forest, the clear water is clear, like the nine curves of Wuyi."
- Most foreign readers won't understand the nice curves of Wuyi as a reference point, but "the clear water is clear" is obviously circular (and probably a typo). Here's a quick edited version:
- "This meandering stream of clear water flows between verdant forested hills with strange stones."
- That's probably not the very best version imaginable, but it's a step in the right direction. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:43, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for your suggestion, I have made some changes according to your suggestion. YZY2233 (talk) 10:25, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- Another point worth mentioning is that because Fuding is administratively part of the prefecture-level city of Ningde, a certain amount of content on Fuding has been duplicated in the Ningde article, but that's not what we want to see. The duplicated content should be removed from the Ningde article and merged with similar content on the Fuding article. For example, the listing for Taimu Mountain should be deleted from the Ningde article but some details about Taimu Mountain on the Ningde article may be moved to the the Fuding article. We should also add a note to the Understand section of the Ningde article to inform readers that Fuding is covered in a separate article. STW932 (talk) 13:26, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- Of course, we may also want to discuss whether Ningde and Fuding should be merged. STW932 (talk) 13:47, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- The Ningde article is sparse, so a merger looks like a good idea. Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:08, 17 December 2024 (UTC)

The article looks good. Here are two formatting corrections to make:
- We know that the places listed are in Fuding City, Ningde City, Fujian Province, China, because the article is called "Fuding", and the rest of the places are listed at the top of the article. In English Wikivoyage, we do not repeat the city name in addresses in listings, unless the listing is in a different city (i.e., not in Fuding).
- We write prices as "¥1,000", not "CNY1,000" or "1,000 yuan".
Thank you. Ground Zero (talk) 14:02, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for your suggestion, I have modified some of the formatting. YZY2233 (talk) 05:03, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- @YZY2233: In English we use the past progressive tense ("I have modified") to describe some thing that has been completed. You have not removed "Fuding City, Ningde City, Fujian Province, China" from the addresses in the listings. It still appears in the restaurant addresses. - OK, thank you for correcting me. I have revised your question again. Please review it. Thank you. YZY2233 (talk) 06:41, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
