One continuous trail?

[edit]

I know that there are people who want to "do" Central America, just like there are people (usually Americans or East Asians) who want to "do" Europe, usually with a time budget of two weeks or less. However, I have never heard of someone trying to "do" Latin America in an equally ridiculous timeframe... While I myself am of the opinion that unless your time budget is a least three weeks, you should limit yourself to at most two countries even in Central Americas where countries are small, I don't think that people do the whole trail in one go... So in essence, is this really an itinerary? Don't get me wrong, I do think we should cover this in some form. Though I also think we could and should mention some off the beaten path places, just on the "off-ramp" of the "Gringo backpacker superhighway"... The explanation is given in the lede:
It is the Western Hemisphere's equivalent of tropical Asia's Banana Pancake Trail.
Covering off-the-beaten-path places in these kinds of articles is a contradiction of their nature. These are beaten trails by definition.
As for whether this is an itinerary that is done in one go: No, probably not. Maybe it's more nearly a travel topic, I'm not sure, but it seems to me, it's more analogous to the 19th-century Englishman/English lady's "European tour" route. They didn't necessarily visit every possible place on the route, but it had known, conventional parameters. So my conclusion would be that this is an itinerary, but a rough one that's not necessarily "completed", still less necessarily in one go, but has known parameters. That makes sense. Hobbitschuster (talk) 01:11, 20 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

More stops on the trail

[edit]

It makes sense to include Cancun. What about Cozumel? I haven't been to either place, but from everything I know, a lot of gringos go to Cozumel. Should we add it? Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:03, 5 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
