Moving the city?

[edit]

An online report about Kiruna looks interesting: How do you move a city ...?. Pashley (talk) 01:44, 10 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Split the article? City proper and municipality

[edit]

[See Talk:Kiruna Municipality.]

[...]

I think there might still be some artifacts of the common article left. I moved away the space station, the ice hotel and Kebnekaise (the article did not say Kebnekaise was in the city, but "easy access" is still a stretch by most standards: expeditions start from Nikkaluokta 65 km from Kiruna). Understand still says Kiruna is known for space research and Sámi culture. Is there some research facilities or significant Sámi presence in the town? --LPfi (talk) 08:21, 29 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Pre-ordered coach and hitchhiking

[edit]

I think this sentence (in By plane) is confusing:

In the evening or on weekends a taxi (should be pre-ordered, otherwise very long waiting time) or pre-ordered coach is pretty much the only way to get anywhere (besides hitchhiking), but that can be very expensive.

We should split it up, but I have two questions.

  • Is hitchhiking viable? Do you get rides with fellow passengers, airport personnel or random strangers? If the first two, I suppose timing is important. If the last, I suppose you should walk to E10 right away. Those points should be clarified. If nobody knows, we should probably rather write that hitchhiking may be possible.
  • I suppose it is the pre-ordered coach that can be very expensive. Are you supposed to hire a coach on your own? Hardly. Otherwise I suppose they have set prices – either they are expensive or not (state the price).
  • We should perhaps give the prices for taxi. It seems a normal car is 400 kr, a van 560 and a shared airport transfer 190 kr/pers (the price table has little explanation).
