Warning box removal[edit]

I've twice removed a warning box from this article that I think it too general to be of much use - Special:Diff/2966343/2966380. For an article that is little more than a pointer to other articles, I don't think it's necessary to have such an in-your-face warning, particularly one that paints the full region based on a few of its constituent parts and strikes me as being of questionable accuracy (for example, suggesting all UNESCO sites in the region have been completely destroyed). -- Ryan • (talk) • 03:17, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Necessary?[edit]

Is this territorial division article necessary? It only makes for a very short article, and the name Mesopotamia does not have a reality for travellers.

I suggest keeping Ancient Mesopotamia but removing Mesopotamia (Middle East), what do you think?

Are you sure "Mesopotamia" has no current relevance? See w:Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant#Historical names:
When in October 2004 al-Zarqawi swore loyalty to Osama bin Laden, he renamed the group Tanẓīm Qāʻidat al-Jihād fī Bilād al-Rāfidayn (lit. "The Organisation of Jihad's Base in Mesopotamia")
That said, I suppose we could merge whatever is here to the other article and just mention that some Arabs still refer to the region by the ancient name of Mesopotamia (see w:Mesopotamia for names in various regional languages). Ikan Kekek (talk) 14:37, 6 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
